We are proud to announce yet another C W Sellors exclusive timepiece by Latin-influenced luxury watch brand Cuervo y Sobrinos. The Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Flameante Green watch delivers its flamboyant ‘Flameante’ dial in a new shade of British Racing Green. The result is a unique combination of classic British style and exotic Cuban flair, limited to just 30 pieces.
Combining their Latin roots with traditional Swiss watchmaking techniques, Cuervo y Sobrinos have become one of the most extraordinary luxury watch brands in the world. Many of their modern-day designs recall their history in Havana, Cuba. During the 1950’s especially, the exotic island was a playground for socialites and celebrities and as such, the Cuervo y Sobrinos watch boutique in downtown Havana attracted a number of celebrated figures: Caruso, Hemingway and Churchill to name just a few. Even today, Cuervo y Sobrinos watches recall this indulgent and glamourous atmosphere, nominating eclectic dial colours, unique textures and premium materials and movements. The Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador watch collection is a prime example of such, and for the new C W Sellors exclusive Historiador Flameante Green watch, the brand revive an ultra-slim version of a 1950’s design but with an exciting British Green Racing colour theme.
As the star of the show, it seems only right to start with the dial of the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Flameante Green Limited Edition watch. The unique ‘flameante’ or ‘flaming’ display is designed to evoke the dynamic tempo of Havana’s Golden Age with a swirling guilloche motif. The curves of the guilloche reminds us of dancing flames, creating a mesmerising spectacle of colour and iridescence across the centrepiece. The elegant British Racing Green colour elected is a first for the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Flameante watch and speaks loudly to those in and out of the nation for its luxurious, emerald-like hue. Set upon the dial are Roman numerals at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, fitting to the British style of the timepiece as it echoes the layout of traditional English watches and clocks.
In between the large Roman numerals, the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Flameante Green watch elects eight silver spear-shaped hour markers while at 12 o’clock, the brand logo is positioned centre stage. We’re also welcomed to an animated small seconds dial at 6 o’clock adorned with a traditional snailed interior and the word ‘Flameante’ to mark its special edition status. The small seconds is also a nod to the Cuervo y Sobrinos watches from the 1950s which would similarly enhance legibility and, due to its interference, bring even more attention to the extraordinary guilloche artwork around it. Lastly, the dial presents lance-shaped hands for the hours and minutes tipped with luminescent coating for easy legibility in low light.
In marked contrast to the British Green Racing dial, the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Flameante Green Limited Edition opts for a polished stainless steel case. The elegant architecture is perfectly sized to slip discreetly under a shirt cuff with a diameter of 40mm and a height of only 6.2mm. The equally thin bezel and jutting lugs are classic tropes of the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador collection, the latter replicating the tailfins of classic cars popular in Havana. The shape of the case is unobtrusive and yet unmissable, securing to the wrist by a handsome Louisiana alligator strap in British Racing Green. The case also presents a traditional knurled crown at 3 o’clock signed off by the Cuervo y Sobrinos logo.
Housed inside the C W Sellors exclusive Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Flameante Green watch is the ultra-thin CYS 2052 Swiss hand-wound movement. With 17 jewels, it runs at a rate of 21,600vph and promises a power reserve of up to 42 hours when fully wound. As you’d expect from a premium watchmaker like Cuervo y Sobrinos, the movement is finished to an extremely high standard with hand-engravings of swirls and plumes. For the first time, the movement is finished in glorious gold and contrasted by blued screws. Through the exhibition case back, you’ll also see an engraving that reads ‘Swiss Manufacture Latin Heritage’ which beautifully references the story of the Cuervo y Sobrinos brand.
