Bremont Unveils NEW Jaguar C-Type Watch

Jewellery & Watch News

Bremont returns to an icon of British racing for its latest release, the Bremont Jaguar C-Type, which beautifully combines the luxury watch manufacturer’s motorsport heritage with the signature elegance and power of the car that inspires it. It joins the likes of the Bremont E-Type and the Bremont D-Type in ensuring the legacy and spirit of these celebrated cars continues.

A Brief History of the Jaguar C-Type

The history of the Jaguar C-Type first began in 1948, when Jaguar launched its first post-war sports car at the London Motor Show. Named the Jaguar XK120, the design eventually inspired the XK120 C launched in 1951 which would eventually be known as the Jaguar C-type with the ‘C’ signifying ‘Competition’. It was designed by British Jaguar car designer, aerodynamicist and artist Malcolm Sawyer and boasted a stylish flowing architecture, inclusive of curvy aerodynamic aluminium body work. It was also renowned for its sophisticated dual-overhead cam 3.4 litre straight sixengine which in itself awarded Jaguar the win in the 1951 and 1953 24 hours Le Mans and set a new lap record in the process. The Jaguar C-Type also made history as the first race car to use pioneering disc brake technology.

Bremont Co-Founder Giles English comments, “The C-type is one of the most beautiful racing cars ever produced and is high up on my list of cars that I wouldmost like to own, along with the D-type. We have enjoyed a special relationship with Jaguar over the past 14 years, working with them on various concept car clocks, supplying clocks for the Queen’s private fleet of Jaguars, as well as developing a wonderful series of watch designs honouring some of their most celebrated cars. The C-type is a wonderful addition to the range.”

The Bremont Jaguar C-Type Watch

A quick comparison of the Jaguar C-Type car and the new Bremont watch and you’ll notice several similarities, particularly to the fluid shapes of the bodies. Measuring to 43mm in diameter, the stainless steel Trip-Tick case construction of the Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch curls gracefully at the edges and at the lugs, bringing to life the same curvaceous profile as the Jaguar vehicle. The bevels of the lugs are polished while the rest of the case is circular brushed. The case also features a scratch resistant PVD treated case middle, a screw in crown engraved with the original Jaguar heritage Dunlop tyre tread, domed sapphire crystal glass and a 200 metre water resistant rating.

Fitted to the top, the Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch debuts a new black aluminium bi-directional bezel referencing the original bodywork of the car. It also comes decorated with a white printed tachymeter scale which can be used for measuring the approximate speed of a vehicle over a known distance. Turning the watch over and a new feature for a Bremont Jaguar watch appears, a special screw down case back detailed with a rare decorative coin depicting the Jaguar ‘Growler’ hood badge.

Hidden behind the back is the BE-50AV automatic winding movement, a chronometer-certified calibre offering hours, minutes and central sweeping chronograph seconds, a date complication, small seconds and a 30 minutes counter supported by a 42 hour power reserve. Each of the complications are beautifully laid out on the multi-layered silver-plated sunburst dial and marked by matte black numerals and hands, the hour and minutes finished in Superluminova. The dial also reveals a red accent on the small seconds counter to mimic the original Smiths gauges from the C-type and a matching red needle-tipped chronograph seconds hand. Completing Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch is a perforated vintage brown calfskin leather strap closed by a classic stainless steel pin buckle.
