Jewellery & Watch News

A couple of weeks ago, British watch manufacturer Bremont announced the release of their H1 Timing Standard and a range of 40mm men’s core-collection timepieces fitted with their ENG300 movement series. Alongside the Bremont Supernova and the Bremont Fury, the Bremont Audley formed part of the trio of Bremont H1 Generation watches taking its name from the brand’s first Flagship Boutique in Mayfair, London and delivering an aesthetic worthy of a luxury dress watch.
Last year, Bremont made history with their Longitude Limited Edition collection which for the first time hosted the brand’s own manufacture movement. The ENG300 series was designed and built to Bremont’s exact specifications completely in-house at their facility The Wing in Henley-on-Thames. It was the first time in 50 years that a mechanical movement had been built to this scale on British shores and now, it powers a core collection of watches including a pair of dress watches named the Bremont Audley. These timepieces are powered by the ENG365 automatic winding calibre which has been tested under Bremont’s new H1 Timing Standard. The brand compares this to the ISO3159:2009 Chronometer test for impressive levels of precision and reliability. The test also involves sending the movement inside a concept watch case into the air in collaboration with leading ejection seat manufacturer Martin-Baker.
The ENG356 automatic winding movement is not only performance-wise impressive but is a sight to behold through the case back of each Bremont Audley watch. You can see some of the 22 jewels, rhodium-plated bridges with a gold-plated automatic bridge and a gorgeous rhodium-plated solid tungsten rotor. The rotor is nicely engraved with the Bremont logo and features star-like openwork detailing. The movement provides the Bremont Audley watches with classic functions like hours, minutes, seconds and date and an unusual feature for a dress watch, a power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock. This displays the status of its 65-hour power reserve.
Housing the movement is a choice of two case metals, stainless steel or 18 carat rose gold. Both Bremont Audley watches measure to 40mm in diameter and 12.9mm tall and are engineered using the brand’s famous Trip-Tick case construction. In the middle, a PVD-treated case barrel ensures additional scratch resistance and on top, an elegant two-stepped bezel is left fixed and unadorned. The cases of the Bremont Audley watches are highly polished, as you’d want from a dress watch, and yet are surprisingly durable with a 100 metre water resistant rating. There’s also scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass on top to match that of the case back, the former electing an anti-reflective coating for easy legibility of the dial beneath.
The dials of the Bremont Audley watches are crafted from a sunray silver decorated metal and joined by nickel or rose gold plated markers and hands. The indexes are fluted and faceted, catching the light beautifully, while the hands are sharp, tapering to a point. In contrast, the seconds hand is coloured in blue matching with the hardware on the power reserve indicator. The dial also features a recessed date window at 3 o’clock, a sloped minutes track around the circumference and the printed Bremont logo at 12. Completing the Bremont Audley watches is a crocodile embossed chocolate brown leather strap closed by a pin buckle is either steel or rose gold.
