Bremont Supermarine Chrono Watch Review

Jewellery & Watch News

Alongside the Bremont Argonaut Azure and Supermarine S302, Bremont have extended their series of 2021 watch releases with the new Bremont Supermarine Chrono. For the first time, chronograph complication is introduced to the British watch manufacturer’s iconic Supermarine dive collection alongside a chronometer certified movement, GMT function and a choice of blue or black metal dials.

Since its release in 2009, the Bremont Supermarine collection has remained one of the brand’s most iconic families designed for and extensively tested by elite military squadrons and top dive units around the world. The formidable aesthetic noteworthy of every Bremont Supermarine watch has been described by Bremont co-founders Nick and Giles English as “amphibious”, a design that can be used just as effortlessly underwater as a diving instrument as it could in the cockpit as a pilots watch. Today, the Supermarine takes performance to a whole new level as it comes equipped for the very first time with a chronometer certified chronograph movement.

Together with the release of the Bremont Supermarine Chrono watch, Bremont have announced their latest brand ambassador Jason Fox. Most notably known as the leading star of the current hit TV show ‘SAS: Who Dares Wins’, Fox is also a former Royal Marine Commando, ex Special Forces Sergeant and a best-selling author. At just 16 years old, he joined the forces and went on to serve for 20 years, smoothly soaring through the selection process into the Special Forces. From there, he planned and led operations including hostage rescue, counter terrorism, counter insurgency, maritime counter terrorism, surveillance, body guarding and counter narcotic missions to name just a few. Working with extreme explorers has always been a crucial part of Bremont’s DNA, and their new partnership with Jason Fox – who will now be sporting his own Bremont Supermarine Chrono – is another perfect pairing.

As a long-standing friend of the brand I’ve been familiar with the product range for some time and have been wearing Bremont for a number of years already. I have been ‘tested beyond endurance’ my entire life so can fully relate to the brand ethos. I admire and respect what Nick and Giles (Bremont Co-Founders) have managed to achieve, and I can vouch for the quality of the product which has never let me down to date. The Supermarine Chrono is tough, durable, easy to read in hectic situations, reliable in tough situations and it looks slick.” – Jason Fox, Bremont brand ambassador

We are delighted to be offering a chronograph into this line of distinct and robust dive watches. We are also honoured to have such a Special Forces expert with an incredible list of missions under his belt formally join the Bremont family. Jason’s physical and psychological resilience is completely mind blowing and inspirational. The fact that he has chosen to work with us as a brand is a true testament to the design and capabilities of our watches to be ‘Tested Beyond Endurance’. The rugged yet reliable Supermarine Chrono is the perfect choice for a truly remarkable man.” – Giles English, Bremont Co-Founder

Just as both Bremont co-founder Giles English and Bremont ambassador Jason Fox describe, the Bremont Supermarine Chrono watch is a formidable piece of equipment designed for the wrists of brave adventurers. As with other Bremont Supermarine watches before it, the new chronographs are engineered using the brand’s Trip Tick three-piece case construction which includes a 43mm stainless steel case, DLC coated middle case barrel and a bi-directional ceramic bezel. Unlike many other typical sport chronographs which usually sit fairly high on the wrist, the Bremont Supermarine Chrono measures to only a mere 15.8mm in thickness.

Working alongside the red arrow-shaped central GMT hand, the bezel of each Bremont Supermarine Chrono is inclusive of a special etched 24 hour scale for telling the time in a second time zone. To its right, two screw down chronograph pushers and a bronze detailed screw in crown assist in a 200 metre water resistance while domed scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass ensures optimal legibility of the dial beneath and of the movement through the exhibition case back.

Powering each Bremont Supermarine Chrono watch is the modified BE-54AE automatic winding movement based on the La Joux Perret 7754 calibre. Its complex construction includes a handsome moulded and skeletonised decorated rotor and has been chronometer certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute. Alongside central hands for hours, minutes and chronograph seconds, a date window at 4.30H and three subsidiary dials for small seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hour counters, the Swiss made movement delivers 25 jewels, a frequency of 28,800bph and a power reserve of 42 hours.

The Bremont Supermarine Chrono is currently available in four variations, two dressed in blue dials and two in black. Each colourway is then paired with an integrated bracelet or a corresponding coloured rubber strap. As with all Bremont Supermarine watches, legibility is made a priority with clear bronze hands filled with Superluminova, bold red accents and contrasting silver subsidiary dials.
