Named after the boat their father hand-made for their mother, Bremont co-founders Nick and Giles English expand their luxury ladies watch collection and unveil the new Bremont Solo Lady K watch.
Anyone remotely familiar with Bremont watches will have likely heard the story of its origins, a British watch manufacturer born with a sentimental nature. Their father’s tragic passing, his love of engineering and his vigour for the world of aviation became the very fuse that sparked the founding of the brand back in 2002. The name “Bremont” also comes with a nostalgic backstory. During the 1990s, Nick and Giles were flying together across France when they were forced to carry out an emergency landing. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, they were taken in by a humble farmer who allowed them to stay in his home while they sent for help. The farmer’s generosity was not forgotten. His name was Antoine Bremont.
Alongside the release of the new Bremont Solo Lady K watches, another tale from Bremont’s history has surfaced. This one tells of Nick and Giles English’s father, Euan who lovingly hand built a boat for their mother and named it the Lady K. In remembrance of this, and a nod to their mother’s own artistic and adventurous spirit – one that was of equal match to their father’s, the brothers have launched two Bremont Solo Lady K watches dressed in a choice of white mother of pearl or black Tahitian mother of pearl and adorned in an abundance of diamonds.
Bremont used diamonds for the very first time in their luxury watch collections last year with the release of the Bremont Hawking Quantum Ladies watch, a historic and now sold-out limited edition conceived with the Hawking family. For the first time, diamonds are used in Bremont’s core collection with the Bremont Solo Lady K. Eight full-cut 1.3mm VS2 GH diamonds are applied as indexes and a further 60 white brilliant cut 1.35mm VVS FG diamonds totalling 0.7 carats are placed on the stainless steel bezel. Bremont promises that all diamonds used are ethically sourced, follow the Kimberley Process and are conflict free.
Shimmering just as much as the diamonds, the mother of pearl dials instantly convey a feeling of being by the ocean. The white mother of pearl dial boasts a mesmerising cream colour accentuated by a pink and green iridescence while the Bremont Lady K watch with a black Tahitian mother of pearl dial appropriately calls to mind an unexplored ocean with a darker iridescence of rich violet and green tones. Like other Bremont Solo Ladies watches before it, the dial is then detailed with large Arabic numerals at the 12, 3 and 9 o’clock positions, slim polished nickel central hands for hours, minutes and seconds and a date window at 6 o’clock.
Powering each of these functions is the modified calibre 11 1/2’’’ BE-92AV automatic movement which has been chronometer certified, delivers a power reserve of 42 hours, a frequency of 28,800vph and comes equipped with a total of 25 jewels. The movement is put on display through the sapphire crystal case back and is housed within a 34 millimetre stainless steel case. Building on the brand’s aviation and military principles, the case is engineered using the brand’s Trip-Tick® construction with domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass and a stainless steel bracelet with a double deploying clasp.
