Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Box Set Review

Jewellery & Watch News

Bremont has released a stunning limited edition box set in celebration of its partner, Jaguar’s 60th anniversary of the iconic E-Type racing car. The limited edition sets come in two varieties; ‘Flat Out Grey’ and ‘Drop Everything Green’. Each model comes with Bremont’s first-ever rally timer display comprising a stopwatch timer with a tachymeter scale, and a clock with a small seconds sub-dial. To understand the beauty and exclusivity of the new Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Edition Box Sets, an understanding of this special partnership between Bremont and Jaguar is necessary…

The shared visions and successes of Bremont and Jaguar over the years

It was around 60 years ago that Jaguar released its E-Type at the Geneva Motor Show. But it was just 10 years ago that a special relationship between Jaguar and British watchmaker, Bremont formed. In 2010, Jaguar trusted Bremont with the job of creating a bespoke in-car clock for the XJ75 Platinum Concept Car in celebration of Jaguar’s 75th anniversary. The clock was a success thus another in-car clock (this time removable) was developed for Jaguar’s C-X75 Concept Supercar and was mounted to a turbine-inspired holder in the central console. Its mechanism was powered by the acceleration of the car itself. The concept car was driven by Bond’s nemesis Mr Hinx in the Spectre (2015) film, making it into the Bond Hall of Fame.

In 2011, the Queen’s fleet of Jaguar cars was kitted out with Bremont car clocks, and Prince Phillip was gifted a special pocket watch by Bremont and Jaguar as part of the celebrations surrounding the Queen’s Jubilee. In 2016 a series of six limited edition timepieces were launched by Bremont as part of the car manufacturer’s exclusive series of Lightweight E-type cars. The wristwatches drew direct inspiration from these Jaguar cars, with a Lightweight RPM gauge-inspired black dial and a red zone quadrant feature. The automatic winding rotor that formed part of the movement powering the watch was put on display through a sapphire-backed case, boasting an alloy-spoked Lightweight steering wheel-inspired design.

Due to the popularity of the Lightweight E-type watches, Bremont released two more accessible versions of the watch – the MKI and MKII watches, based on the road version of the Lightweight E-type. These designs featured a dial inspired by the iconic Jaguar speedometer and rev-counter, along with a splash of red colour. The Bremont MKII chronograph was then released in 2017 inspired by the number 23 – an Old English White Lightweight E-type car. A red-stitched racing leather strap and new hands distinguished this new model from previous ones.

In 2019 Bremont released a racing chronograph in tribute to Jaguar’s three-time win at the Le Mans 24 Hours race. An intricate Jaguar steering wheel inspired rotor was once again put on display through a large sapphire exhibition caseback and the design was limited to just 300 pieces worldwide. Its Dunlop tyre tread etched into the surface of the crown and dark blue aesthetic nodding to the Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar race team were but a few of its key design elements.

Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Box Set

Now it’s time for commemorating a special milestone reached by Jaguar and, of course, a chance to anchor the relationship between the two British manufacturers even more. The two different coloured models are part of a 60th anniversary Jaguar E-Type limited edition box set and have been executed in a green and a grey colour - each limited to just 60 pieces worldwide. Provided within each set is Bremont’s first-ever rally timer, which integrates two mechanical instruments; a stopwatch timer and a clock. The stopwatch timer on the left features a tachymeter scale around its bezel, a pusher at 1:30 and a red chronograph seconds hand. The clock features a small second sub-dial at 6 o’clock, white Arabic numeral hour markers and central hour and minute hands. Both instruments in the rally timer are mounted on an engine-turned black plate for display purposes.

Drawing inspiration from the E-type’s instrument gauges, the new limited edition Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary watches boast beautiful chamfered hour and minute hands that replicate the tachometer needle on the cars. The striking colours of both models are named the ‘Flat Out Grey’ and ‘Drop Everything Green’ colour schemes and come with coordinated leather bands. These colours, together with superior watchmaking techniques, epitomize the glamour and exclusivity of the iconic Jaguar E-type, first launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961. A watch that Enzo Ferrari described as “the most beautiful car ever made”.

Specifications of the two new Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary watches

The two new models released as a celebration of Jaguar’s 60th anniversary of the classic E-Type car both feature black metal dials with an integrated dial ring. The steel hands of each watch have been treated with Super-LumiNova to glow effectively in dark conditions. The 12 Arabic numeral hour markers are interrupted by the chronograph dials, presented in a bi-compax layout. The 3 o’clock counter offers 30-minutes and the 9 o’clock counter features the small seconds. Both sub-dials are balanced by a date window at 6 o’clock and the famous Bremont lettering at 12 o’clock. The dial is framed by a bi-directional aluminium rotating bezel in grey or green, complete with a tachymeter timing function.

The robust 43mm stainless steel cases of the Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary watches are forged from the brand’s Trip-Tick® case construction. The design also features a scratch-resistant PVD treated case barrel and the case is water-resistant to 200 meters. A screw-down crown, adorned with the Dunlop tyre treat, helps the case to uphold this water-resistant capability, and the model sits at a depth of 16.42mmon the wrist. A stainless steel caseback with integrated flat crystal glass has been engraved with the Jaguar lettering and a reference to the case’s 200-meter water resistance. The glass section of the caseback grants a clear view into the performance and arrangement of the Calibre BE-53AE.

The BE-53AE automatic movement is equipped with a Glucydur balance, an Anachron balance spring, a Nivaflex 1 mainspring and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement, which provides a 42-hour power reserve, also showcases a stunning miniaturised Jaguar E-Type steering wheel-inspired rotor. To finish, the Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary watches are fitted with a grey or green-coloured leather strap in the same colour to match their dials. The leather bands are executed with white contrast stitching and a steel buckle for enclosing firmly to the wrist.
