Bremont Armed Forces Argonaut Azure Watch Review

Jewellery & Watch News

Bremont extends its Armed Forces collection with a new military dive watch. The Bremont Argonaut Azure maintains the utilitarian principles of the series with a hardened stainless steel case, chronometer certified movement and an instantly legible blue and orange dial.

In 2019, British watch manufacturer Bremont launched its first Armed Forces watch collection, a series of military watches born from a collaboration with Britain’s Ministry of Defence and designed in honour of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. The series introduced three models: the Bremont Arrow, Argonaut and Broadsword, each chronometer certified and inspired by the original ‘Dirty Dozen’ watches commissioned for the British Army during World War II. These incredible releases marked a new beginning for Bremont as the sole luxury watch producer allowed to legitimately use the signs, symbols and Heraldic Badges of the Royal Navy, British Army and the Royal Air Force.

Since the release of the original Bremont Armed Forces trio, the collection has seen a couple of expansions including a range of Bremont Broadsword Bronze watches and of course, the new Bremont Argonaut Azure watch. The new Argonaut Azure delivers the recognisable DNA of its predecessor but with a new nautical blue and bright orange aesthetic. This colourway takes inspiration from the origins of the Argonaut name, a word found within Greek mythology and synonymous with Navy history, having appeared on Commissioned ships for nearly 250 years.

Bremont has a very long standing and cherished relationship with the British military and is the only watch brand to hold the esteemed ‘Armed Forces Covenant’, a pledge that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives. We are incredibly proud of our military links and adding the new Argonaut Azure to the Armed Forces Collection is very exciting. We hope that it will continue to appeal to both military personnel and civilians alike, delivering a watch that combines performance and reliability in perfect harmony.” - Nick English, Bremont Co-Founder.

CASE

Just like the Bremont Armed Forces watches before it, the Argonaut Azure is designed under strict performance specifications just like those set by the original Dirty Dozen watches. This includes extensive waterproofing, regulation to chronometer specification, luminous markings for legibility and unquestionably, a robust case. Measuring to 43mm in diameter, the Bremont Argonaut Azure watch is engineered from a satin polished stainless steel two piece case construction inclusive of an internal rotating bezel.

The pale blue internal bezel is operated by a lockable crown at 4 o’clock and adorned with mint green Superluminova accents for optimal legibility in all lighting conditions. The 60 minute scale is designed especially for measuring elapsed dive times and is assisted by the screw down case back and 300 metre water resistant rating. While each Bremont Armed Forces watch is entirely different in its design and is dedicated to each of the military brands, they are all, just like the new Bremont Argonaut Azure, adorned with a closed case back decorated with the three collective Heraldic Badges of the three services.

DIAL

Housed beneath scratch resistant domed sapphire crystal glass, the bright blue dial of the new Bremont Argonaut Azure watch is the largest change to the Argonaut design. It’s stunning ocean blue aesthetic not only draws on its associations with the Navy but ensures instant readability on both land and at sea. With minutes being so critical in the marine environment, it’s stand-out design is exaggerated even further with the addition of vividly contrasting hour and minute hands dressed Superluminova. The hour and seconds hand are kept classic in black while the minutes complication juxtaposes beautifully in orange. The dial of the Bremont Argonaut Azure watch is also detailed with a blacked out date window at 3 o’clock, the Bremont and HMAF emblems at 12 o’clock and its chronometer and 300 metre water resistant certification at 6 o’clock.

MOVEMENT

Bremont are no strangers to equipping their timepieces with chromometer rated movements and the new Bremont Armed Forces Argonaut Azure watch is no different. Powering the central hands for hours, minutes, seconds and date complication is the BE-92AV movement which has been COSC certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute. Alongside a total of 25 bearing jewels, the movement delivers a power reserve of 42 hours, a frequency of 28,800vph and a Bremont moulded and skeletonised decorated rotor, a feature hidden behind the decorated case back.

STRAP

To pair with the bright orange accents on the blue dial, the Bremont Argonaut Azure watch is fitted with a comparably vivid orange “Temple Island” rubber strap and stainless steel pin buckle. For a slightly dressier look, the piece is also available on a dual-tone stainless steel bracelet with folding buckle.
