Now the Navitimer watch by Breitling comes in 32mm and 36mm size options for men and women who prefer the look and feel of a smaller watch.
Is it possible to love the Navitimer any more? Well – yes, and I’ll explain why. The post-war classic has been a strong seller here at C W Sellors for many years and we have a faithful customer base that considers us their first point of contact every time a new release arrives. The chronometer, which was first launched in 1952, marked a successful period for the brand - the post-WW2 boom. The aviation watch ended up becoming one of the brand’s most iconic timepieces, defining itself with a circular slide rule that was optimised for carrying out air-bound calculations. Its design had evolved from the earlier 1940s Chronomat and the brand’s 1930s aviation timepieces with the ability to complete all of a pilot’s pre-flight and in-flight navigational calculations. This was thanks to three additional marks on the inner scale: STAT for statutory miles, NAUT for nautical miles and KM for kilometres. Each time the Navitimer is interpreted in a new way, it adds another defining layer to the collection. Elegant both in style and technical performance, the Navitimer, whether equipped with the slide rule bezel or not, remains one of the most eye-catching and functional Breitling watches of all.
So yes, it is possible to love the Navitimer just that little bit more, especially now two new sizes have been introduced. A 32mm and 36mm model come in an array of different dial colours, some with diamonds and some without. Both have been released alongside the brand’s “Navitimer – For The Journey” campaign and are sported on the wrist of award-winning actor, Charlize Theron. Up until recently, the Breitling Navitimer was only made available in options of 41mm, 43mm and 46mm. Throughout the years, however, the design of the Navitimer has barely changed, making it just as desirable today as it was back in the 1950s. Some of the much-loved features of the Breitling Navitimer include the mushroom push-pieces, the rounded case and its beautifully tapering lugs.
The Breitling Navitimer 36mm watches
The larger 36mm Breitling Navitimer watch comes in a stainless steel case and a bi-colour option comprised of stainless steel and 18ct red gold. There’s also another gold option that Breitling refers to as “better gold”. It means that the gold used for this watch is sourced from a traceable and ethical mine in line with the company’s mission to “do better”. The mines that Breitling sources its gold from meet the Swiss Better Gold’s Association. These 36mm models boast the iconic beaded bezel and the circular slide rule, which frames a possible four dial colours to choose from. If you opt for the steel case you get the serene mint green dial colour, an anthracite colour, or a silver colour. These all feature baton indices that contribute to an elegant and clean display. If you opt for the two-tone stainless steel and rose gold option, you get an entrancing mother-of-pearl dial adorned with “better diamonds” for the hour markers. These round brilliant-cut diamonds create a more glamorous and regal finish on the wrist. The ethical lab-grown diamonds are certainly the talking point of this design. Not only are they traceable to their accredited producer but they also entice the light to play upon the mirror-polished surfaces of the case and the iridescent tones of the pearly dial to create a flawless statement piece.
The new 36mm Breitling Navitimer watches for women are all powered by the Breitling Calibre 17. The engine is based on an ETA movement that produces a power reserve of 38 hours once fully wound. Each watch is fitted on a leather band; mint green, dark red, brown or dark grey depending on the dial colour you choose. Alternatively, you can opt for a link bracelet, which donates an instantly dressy edge to any attire (including the rose gold and stainless steel bi-colour option for the pearls and diamonds model). For the “better gold” option you get a choice between a brown leather band or a fully “better gold” red gold bracelet to match with the case, along with a set of better diamond hour markers around the track.
The Breitling Navitimer 32mm watches
The 32mm Breitling Navitimer watches for women are notably more compact. They also feature a screw-down crown but a slightly higher water-resistant capability (50 meters as opposed to the larger 30-meter water-resistant models) These models forego the circular slide rule bezel but do feature the beautiful beaded bezel. These options are also powered by a Superquartz movement instead of an automatic movement and feature a snapped caseback. You can choose between a powdery pink mother-of-pearl stainless steel option, a pale powdery blue mother-of-pearl dial in steel, and a mother of pearl dial in steel. The latter option is also available on a steel and 18ct red gold bi-colour option with brilliant-cut diamonds that scintillate under the light. The stones add radiance and panache to the dial in equal measure, constituting a stunning display for timekeeping. For the “better gold” option you get to enjoy a mother-of-pearl dial and the same traceable diamonds around the hour track, as well as a choice between a brown alligator leather band or a “better gold” bracelet.
