Following the success of the original Top Time watch launched by Breitling and Deus Ex Machina back in 2021, the pair have reunited for a second time to reveal a Breitling Top Time Deus Limited Edition for 2023. Limited to 2,000 pieces worldwide, the design swaps out its previous monochromatic display for one of white and sky blue.
The return of the Breitling Top Time watch in 2020 reinforced the Swiss watchmaker yet again as a master of vintage re-interpretations. It’s unique “Zorro” (or bowtie) chronograph dial and mushroom chronograph pushers beautifully paid homage to a historic Breitling Top Time watch from the 1960’s created by Willy Breitling. This original design attracted the wrists of young and active professionals, tempting them with accessible price points, graphic dials and modern executions. The Breitling Top Time was in production for two decades following its release before disappearing from their portfolio for good. Or so it seemed. The Breitling Top Time watch launched in 2020 was a pleasant surprise for vintage watch collectors and after it sold out, it was followed by Breitling and Deus Ex Machina’s first collaborative timepiece: the 2021 Top Time Deus Limited Edition. It boasted a gorgeous black and white dial with electric orange and red accents. Now the design resurfaces again with the launch of the 2023 Breitling Top Time Deus watch.

Most of the specifications of the new Breitling Top Time Deus watch match those from the time before. There’s the same 41mm stainless steel case with a height of 14.27mm, the signature piston-style chronograph pushers, knurled crown and snapped case back. The case back is nicely engraved with its limited edition status out of 2,000 pieces and an image of a Deus bike and rider designed by Deus creative director Carby Tuckwell. There’s also convex sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on both sides and a 30 metre water resistant rating.
It is the dial of the 2023 Breitling Top Time Deus watch which stands out against those of its forerunners. The white lacquered backdrop is now joined by sky blue which makes its way across the tachymeter scale and two recessed subsidiary counters. Contrasting boldly to this turquoise shade, the tachymeter scale and counters are adorned with fiery red and orange accents. Orange is also used on the lightening bold shaped chronograph seconds hand at the centre. The dial of the Breitling Top Time Deus Limited Edition also reveals baton hour markers and two slim hands for the hours and minutes set with Old Radium lume for a retro look.
The exterior of the Breitling Top Time Deus watch for 2023 is completed by a perforated brown calfskin leather strap with white stitching and a stainless steel folding buckle. Housed within is the Breitling Calibre 23 automatic winding movement with a 48 hour power reserve, 27 jewels and a frequency of 28,800vph.
