Sellita is a relatively new Swiss movement manufacturer having previously operated as an outsourced assembly operation for ETA. In 2003, when ETA decided they were no longer going to outsource their movement assembly, Sellita decided to begin making their own mechanical movements.
Since Sellita had already worked so closely with ETA movements in the past and had formed relationships with many of the part suppliers they decided to create their own versions of some of ETA’s movements. You can see some of the most common Sellita watch movements below:
Sellita SW200
The first movement Sellita created was their Sellita SW200 based on the ETA 2824. It provides hour, minutes, sweep seconds and a date window and measures to 25.6mm in diameter and 4.6mm in height. It has a power reserve of 38 hours and has a vibration frequency of 28,800 per hour.
Unlike the ETA 2824 it is based on, the Sellita SW200 included one additional jewel totalling 26 jewels in total. It is thought that Sellita added this extra jewel in the hopes to market their calibre with a further reduction in friction compared to the ETA 2824. However, there has never been any evidence that the accuracy between the two movements vary in any way.
Sellita SW300
Based on the ETA 2892, the Sellita SW300 is a higher end watch movement and runs slimmer than the SW200 measuring to 3.6mm in height and 25.6mm in diameter. It provides hour, minutes, central sweep seconds and a power reserve of 42 hours. The movement is also fitted with a total of 25 jewels and beats at a frequency of 28,800 per hour.
Sellita SW500
The brand’s latest creation, the SW500 watch movement meets the demand for chronograph function. Based on the ETA 7750 or Valjoux 7750, this calibre provides hours, minutes, small seconds, 60 second chronograph, 30 minute and 12 hour counters. The power reserve of the SW500 averages at 48 hours with a vibration frequency of 28,800 per hour. It also has a date and day corrector, stop second device and 25 jewels.
