Aventurine Quartz is a translucent pale to dark green variety of quartz. This green colour is complemented by glittering metallic flecks. The reflection of light from the metallic mica flecks give the gemstone a shimmering effect, known as aventurescence.
Aventurine quartz gets its name from a type of glass. The Italian ‘per avventura’ means ‘by chance’ and this glass was happened upon when 18th century Venetian glass makers accidentally mixed copper flecks in their work. The result was a sparkling glass that strongly resembled this green glittery quartz. Aventurine quartz is found in Brazil, India, Austria, Russia and Tanzania.
