About Garmin Fenix Watches

If you’re in the market for a durable multisport GPS smartwatch, then you need look no further than the Garmin Fenix collection. First launched in 2012, the design has since become one of Garmin’s flagship products, setting its sights on outdoor enthusiasts and elite athletes who want only the best in technology and design. Before you purchase your own, here’s everything you need to know about Garmin Fenix watches

In 2012, Garmin had pretty much conquered all environments with their innovative products. They had hand-held navigational devices for hikers, smartwatches for golfers and runners, and underwater instruments for divers. Missing from their portfolio however was a smartwatch dedicated entirely to outdoor explorers, a hand-free device that provided all the same technology as their hand-held products. And so, in that year, Garmin launched the inaugural Fenix watch collection. It was their first GPS navigation watch with ABC sensors for altimeter, barometer and compass. It also boasted comprehensive GPS navigation and a tough case design developed together with professional mountain guides.

Over the years, we’ve seen the Garmin Fenix watch collection evolve across several generations. The Garmin Fenix 2 arrived in 2014 and the Fenix 3 shortly after in 2015. The latter saw Garmin use an EXO™antenna, colour display and wrist based heart rate monitor for the first time on the multisport wearable. The Garmin Fenix 5 introduced a new selection of case sizes, with all previous models only available at 51mm. Now, smaller wrists could enjoy cases at 42mm and 47mm alongside new features like maps, mobile payments and music access.

The launch of the Garmin Fenix 6 in 2019 was one of the brand’s biggest launches as it made history as Garmin’s first ever solar-powered smartwatch. Each Garmin Fenix 6 showcased the brand’s ground-breaking Power Lens which allowed you to naturally fuel the watch using the sun. In some models, the Garmin Fenix 6 Solar also utilised sapphire crystal glass for complete protection of the display.

In 2022, the Garmin Fenix 7 watch collection was launched and noted as one of the brand’s best luxury outdoor smartwatches yet. These designs also feature Garmin’s sapphire solar display but with an even better battery life with up to 37 days of power available in smartwatch mode. The Garmin Fenix 7 also debuted new features like Multi-Band GNSS to track in more challenging environments than GPS alone, a real time stamina function so you can track and manage your exertion and a handy integrated flashlight feature which extends a bright light from the side of the case with a simple touch of a button.

Finding the right Garmin Fenix watch can be tough with so many sizes and colours to choose from. The Garmin Fenix watches with an “S” in their name, like the Fenix 7S, have the smallest case size of 42mm. Meanwhile, the classic Fenix 7 watches measure to 47mm. Finally, the Garmin Fenix watches with an “X” in their name, like the Fenix 7X, have the largest case at 51mm. You can also choose from steel and titanium cases in black, cream gold, rose gold, bronze and blue secured by rubber or leather straps.
