The first skeleton watch was designed by watchmaker Andre-Charles Caron back in the late 18th century. He decided to catch the attention of potential buyers by designing a timepiece that revealed all the moving parts inside the watch through the dial. He removed all the parts of the watch that were not vital including the dial, plates and some non-structural bridge elements and created the world’s first skeletonised watch. Skeleton watches with their mesmerising appeal have since grown in popularity and are now part of many luxury watch collections.
