Breitling announces a brand-new collection of Top Time Classic Car watches for 2023, this time electing their in-house B01 movement to power the chronograph complication. The Breitling Top Time B01 Classic Cars series reintroduces three familiar faces with the Top Time B01 Ford Mustang, Top Time B01 Shelby Cobra and Top Time B01 Chevrolet Corvette, while adding a completely fresh addition with the Breitling Top Time B01 Ford Thunderbird.
The 2021 capsule collection of Breitling Top Time Classic Cars watches celebrated the decade of experimentation, freedom and vivacious energy, aka the 1960’s, the very same era when the original Breitling Top Time watch was released. Third-generation founder Willy Breitling felt the change of pace occurring during this time and set out to launch an unconventional chronograph that captured the spirit of the 1960’s, naming it the Top Time. In the same way, the Breitling Top Time Classic Cars collection is dedicated to the exhilarating freedom one feels when driving a 1960’s sports car like the Chevrolet Corvette, the Shelby Cobra, the Ford Mustang or the Ford Thunderbird. While the original Top Time Classic Cars collection celebrated the former three vehicles, the new 2023 series adds a fourth model into the mix inspired by the Ford Thunderbird. The watches are also upgraded thanks to the B01 manufacture movement at their core.
The new Breitling Top Time B01 Ford Thunderbird watch is a stunning addition to the Top Time Classic Cars collection. It presents the colours and emblems of its classic-car counterpart on a crisp white dial adorned in bold red chronograph hands, a teal-coloured small seconds hands and a teal-coloured Thunderbird logo. It is completed by a matching red racing-themed calfskin leather strap. Meanwhile, the Breitling Top Time B01 Chevrolet Corvette watch maintains the colourway of its predecessor with a dark red dial, black chronograph counters and black calfskin leather strap, as does the Breitling Top Time B01 Ford Mustang with its green dial, black counters and dark brown band. Finally, the Breitling Top Time B01 Shelby Cobra watch remains the only watch in the series to host a bi-compax display, offering a blue dial with two silvered chronograph counters at 3 and 9 o’clock. Each of the Breitling Top Time B01 Classic Cars watches can also be ordered on a retro Milanese style bracelet.
All four Breitling Top Time B01 Classic Cars watches for 2023 showcase the same sporty tachymeter scale around the dial’s furthest circumference, unique square-oval, sunken counters and Superluminova inserts on the hours and minutes hands and hour markers. They also present a highly polished, 41mm stainless steel cases equipped with smooth fixed bezels, sapphire crystal glass, a screw in crown and piston-style chronograph pushers. We’re also promised a water resistance of 100 metres and an exhibition case back which displays the B01 automatic winding movement within. As with all of Breitling’s movements, the Calibre B01 is chronometer certified for high levels of accuracy and impresses with a 70 hour power reserve, 41 jewels and a frequency of 28,800vph.
