New Watches and Wonders 2024 Release – the Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech

Jewellery & Watch News

Panerai leads the way in cutting-edge case materials with the new Ti-Ceramitech material forged from an intense ceramization process and showcased in the new Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech watch.

The Panerai and Luna Rossa Relationship

When Panerai became an official partner of the America’s Cup in 2017, it would mark just the beginning of a very special association with the sailing event. That same year, the Italian manufacturer shook hands with the Oracle Team USA and Softbank Team Japan. Two years later, it sat down to talks with Luna Rossa, a sailing team it shared its Italian heritage with. Cementing that partnership since 2019, several Luna Rossa watches have been released. An example would be the Panerai Luminor Quaranta BiTempo Luna Rossa watch with a rich marine-inspired blue dial and shots of red that nod to the Luna Rossa livery. That same watch has a textile blue band with a strip of red running down its middle, bearing the Luna Rossa lettering. The watch features a small second sub-dial at 9 o’clock and a red triangular-tipped dual time hand for tracking local time when travelling. Another example of a Panerai watch from the sailing-inspired Luna Rossa range would be the Panerai Luminor Due Luna Rossa timepiece. That watch features a clean white dial, Arabic numerals placed at their usual locations of 12 and 6 o’clock, and the iconic cushion-shaped case that has come to define the entire Luminor saga.

Now, for 2024, Panerai builds on its sporting reputation and its strong links forged with the Italian sailing team with yet another Luna Rossa watch, built for days out on the water. You don’t have to be a yachter or a sailor to enjoy the new Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech, though. You just have to love it. And that’s not hard.

The new Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech

To get an understanding of the new Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech watch and an appreciation of its toughness, strength and style – you need an understanding of the DNA by which it takes its form. The watch is based on the architecture of the Submersible line. What this means, is that it offers an impressive power reserve, a superior water-resistant capability and a very legible dial. Submersible watches by Panerai are, after all, built for venturing underwater. The new Submersible watch for 2024 is a celebration of Panerai’s relationship with the America’s Cup, but also an acknowledgement of its advances in the realm of material research and development. Indeed, this model is crafted from a material named Ti-Ceramitech.

Ti-Ceramitech – A Material with an Alluring Blue Hue

Ti-Ceramitech is a titanium alloy that Panerai experts have subjected to a patented titanium “ceramization” process. It has taken a total of seven years to achieve the Ti-Ceramitech material used in the design of the new Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro Ti-Ceramitech Luna Rossa watch. The ceramization of the titanium used for this design achieves a distinct hue of blue while at the same time, transforming the titanium alloy surface into a ceramic layer that is dense and ready for its intended environment.

That process, achieved through Electrolytic Plasma Oxidation not only produces a material with superior hardness and fracture resistance but creates a stunning blue hue that just so happens to compliment the model’s rich blue dial. In developing the material, Panerai got its inspiration from materials and processes used in developing products for high-performance environments. The ceramic-coated materials in high demand throughout the yachting and sailing industry demonstrate the use of such materials in these environments and also include the ceramization of steel parts to reduce friction and enhance the speed and efficiency of racing boats.

Before we go any further, a little bit about the Panerai Submersible…

Panerai’s Professional Diver’s Tool

You don’t need to look too hard to appreciate the capability, strength and style of the Submersible watch by the legendary watch brand, Panerai. The Panerai Submersible watch is designed to go underwater and stay underwater. It’s an important feature for the watch since many water-resistant watches aren’t made to withstand very long periods submerged. Unlike those, the Submersible is primed for diving, swimming, and water sports, among many other pursuits. Whether exposed to salt water or freshwater environments, it will hold up, thanks to its design, which is now a separate entity from the Luminor watch – another iconic Panerai design. The Submersible actually started in the Luminor category but, deserving of its own recognition now sits in its very own range.

The main characteristics of the Submersible include the cushion-shaped case and crown-protecting bridge among some other features. However, it can be set apart from other models in the brand’s portfolio for one reason alone. It features a unidirectional rotating bezel, designed for use underwater. The bezel can be aligned with the central minute hand on the dial to measure elapsed time once submerged in water.

The Other Details

Here are the other details you need to know about the new Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech watch. That tough and ultra scratch-resistant case measures a diameter of 44mm and weighs 44% lighter than steel. It’s also ten times stronger and comes fitted with the anti-clockwise rotating bezel topped with an anti-glare sapphire crystal glass front. The watch, water-resistant to depths of 500 meters, boasts a deep ocean-inspired blue dial colour with generously coated Super-LumiNova hands and hour markers. The small second sub-dial at 9 o’clock has received a shot of red as seen in the previous blue Luna Rossa iteration. Red can also be seen in the centre strip running down the middle of the watch’s blue rubber/textile strap, complete with the Luna Rossa lettering.

The new Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech watch by Panerai is powered by the Panerai Calibre P.9000, which performs at 28,800 alternations per hour and delivers a power reserve of 3 days once fully wound.
