For Watches & Wonders 2023, Angelus has welcomed three new additions to their sporty Chronodate collection. It includes an opulent Angelus Chronodate Red Gold watch with a solid gold case and black dial and a pair of lightweight Angelus Chronodate Titanium watches, one with a jet black dial and a second with an elegant fern green display.
It was only this time last year that Swiss watchmaker Angelus relaunched their famous Chronodato watch. The original was unveiled back in 1942 and made history as the brand’s first ever wristwatch chronograph with calendar. Today’s Angelus Chronodate watch collection beautifully fuses together the historical elements of its predecessor with the contemporary landscapes of the brand’s modern creations. The trio from 2022 included a single 18ct red gold model with a blue dial and two titanium references with a blue or opaline silver dial. Now offering even more choice is the new 2023 Angelus Chronodate watches with dials of jet black and mint green.
The modern cases of the new 2023 Angelus Chronodate watches follow suit to those launched last year. They measure to 42.5mm in diameter and are engineered from 18 carat red gold or lightweight titanium with carbon composite chronograph push pieces and a case-matching bezel with 12 notches for decoration. The taut, sloping and bevelled lines are adopted from other Angelus timepieces while the addition of chamfered profiles and vertically brushed finishings enhance the Chronodate’s sporty personality. All three watches are equipped with box-shaped sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on both sides and a 30 metre water resistant rating.
The real novelty of the Angelus Chronodate watches for 2023 are the dials which for the first time are presented in jet black or fern green. The 18ct gold case is only available with the black display while the titanium case is presented in both. The dials are distinctively sporty with large Arabic numerals and substantial counters for optimal readability. On the velvet black dial, the counters for the small seconds and 30 minutes match in black while the green display stands out more obviously with contrasting black subsidiary dials. The dials are punctuated with glow in the dark Superluminova inserts on the central hour and minute hands and numerals.
Housed within a special container machined from carbon fibre composite within the Angelus Chronodate watch’s case is Angelus’ famous chronograph movement, the A-500 calibre. Its format displays the small seconds at 9 o’clock and the 30 minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock with the chronograph seconds located centre stage. The latter two functions mark themselves as chronograph complications with sporty red accents to match with the red-tipped central pointer date hand. The A-500 calibre impresses with a column wheel and a horizontal coupling clutch to keep a slim profile and boasts a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of 60 hours. You can enjoy the movement through the case back of each 2023 Angelus Chronodate watch including the personalised oscillating weight shaped like a capital letter “A” above a star.
The Angelus Chronodate Red Gold watch completes its form with a black rubber strap and an 18ct rose gold folding buckle. Meanwhile, the Angelus Chronodate Titanium watches can be ordered on either a black rubber strap or a gorgeous straight-linked titanium bracelet.
