In what might be one of the most unlikely watch collaborations ever, Oris begins the Watches & Wonders 2023 event with a green-dialled ProPilot X watch dedicated to Disney The Muppet’s Kermit the Frog. As their brand slogan attests, Oris is all about the “Joy of Mechanics” and while the last few years has seen Oris focus on their high-precision Calibre 400 movement series, the Swiss watchmaker now combines the in-house calibre with the ultimate character of joy, Kermit the Frog, to launch the Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition watch.
Oris’ Creative Director Ken Laurent speaks on the new Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition watch: “Let me ask you this: what is a mechanical watch for? We talk a lot about functions in a literal sense, but really, the purpose of an Oris watch is to make people smile. That’s it. And with the ProPilot X Kermit Edition, there’s nothing else to it. Ok, yes, it’s powered by a brilliant movement and the case design is spectacular, but the function of this watch is really simple: to bring joy”.
Perfectly fitting in with the current trend for colourful watch dials, the Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition watch delivers a bright, lime green dial inspired by the colour of Kermit the Frog himself alongside a unique date window which cleverly shows Kermit’s face on the first day of the month – a day Oris and Disney have named “Kermit Day”. It’s a brilliant way to execute a collaboration, with the Kermit reference remaining a secret 29 to 30 days of the month and only appearing on one day. The vivid green, subtly textured display is then joined by the ProPilot X’s baton indexes and needle-shaped hands for the hours, minutes and seconds – the former two adorned in glow in the dark Superluminova.
For the case and movement of the Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition watch, you can expect all the same brilliant specifications as the original ProPilot X watches from last year. The case is technical and raw in its stylings, offering a 39mm diameter and a height of 11.8mm, entirely engineered from lightweight titanium. The aggressive-looking bezel is fixed and knurled and joined by a textured screw in crown at 3 o’clock flanked by crown guards and domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating on both sides. The case back is also screwed down and boasts its own layer of sapphire crystal glass for a view of the Calibre 400 movement working inside. The Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition is water resistant to 100 metres.
Since its launch in 2020, the Oris Calibre 400 movement series has defined a new standard for Oris in terms of precision and reliability. It ensures impressive levels of magnetic resistance, a 5 day power reserve and an accuracy rating of -3 to +5 seconds a day which surpasses chronometer standards. It also carries a 10-year warranty and 10-year recommended service interval. Finally, the Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition watch is completed by a streamline titanium bracelet and folding buckle.
