Jewellery & Watch News
For as long as they have been around, Bell & Ross have focused almost entirely on creating durable pilots’ watches. Then, in 2019, the French-Swiss watch manufacturer did something no one expected and released a distinctively urban and contemporary watch named the BR 05. Characterised by its glorious integrated bracelet, perfectly flat surfaces and supple square shaped case, the Bell & Ross BR 05 was a surprising change in direction and ever since it’s release, it has been in the spotlight with a new releases constantly being added.
At the beginning, the BR 05 series presented a selection of simple three-hand designs which were shortly followed by a range of chronographs and a handful of skeleton limited editions. Just this year alone, the collection has expanded significantly with the release of the BR 05 Skeleton Nightlum, the BR 05 GMT, the BR 05 Diamond and now of course, the Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Gold. With its solid gold case and mesmerising skeletonised dial, the latter could just be the most indulgent BR 05 yet. Let’s take a look at it in more detail…
We’ve seen gold in the BR 05 collection before, but only in two-toned models shared by steel bracelets and cases and full gold pieces with classic time only displays. The Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Gold on the other hand is the very first solid gold timepiece in the series with a skeletonised dial. It’s not only the case, lugs and bracelet crafted from gold, but uniquely, the openwork movement is also crafted from the precious metal with the bridges finished in rose gold plating. The bridges blend together beautifully with the matching applique indices and skeletonised hands for the hours and minutes.
Other than its case material and dial, the Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Gold watch follows suit to the rest of the BR 05 collection with a satin-finished 40mm profile, a fixed bezel secured by four visible screws, a screw down crown, 100 metres water resistance and an exhibition case back. The hands are also treated with glow in the dark Superluminova and the integrated bracelet is completed by a folding buckle. The movement on display through the back is the BR-CAL.322 calibre which follows suit to the rest of the aesthetic with an 18 carat rose gold oscillating rotor. The Swiss movement also promises a power reserve of 40 hours.
As a solid gold timepiece, it’s no surprise that the retail price of the Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Gold watch is a little higher than some of its stainless steel counterparts. Nevertheless, if you are working with a smaller budget, you’ll be pleased to know the design comes with a choice of two straps, one coming in significantly cheaper than the other. The Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Gold on a solid rose gold bracelet retails at £28,800 while a black rubber strap variant is on offer for £19,800.
