As specialists of aeronautical instruments and pilot’s watches, its only fitting that Swiss watchmaker Bell & Ross boast a reasonable number of GMT watches in their portfolio. For Watches & Wonders 2023, that number continues to grow as the brand adds a new blue-dialled and blue-bezelled Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT watch to their collection.
Back in 2016, Bell & Ross evolved their GMT offerings significantly with the launch of the Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT watch in red and black. The design was the first in the BR 03 collection to benefit from a bi-directional rotating 24-hour bezel. This meant that you could read the local time using the classic hour and minute hands, your home time with the large red GMT hand and a third time zone with the bezel. This same innovative layout is replicated once again, this time pairing the red GMT complication with a navy blue dial and a two-toned blue and grey bezel. Since it forms part of the Bell & Ross BR 03 collection, the Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT Blue watch showcases the emblematic “circle-within-a-square” design. The square case measures to 42mm by 42mm in diameter with polished and satin-finished surfaces, a knurled screw in crown at 3 o’clock and a screwed down case back. There’s also sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment, the statement four screws at each corner of the case and a 100 metre water resistance. A distinguishing feature of the Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT Blue watch is of course it’s bezel which remains bi-directional with a two-toned aluminum ring and a 24 hour scale. The grey section of the bezel marks the day time hours while the navy blue area signals the night time hours.
The dial of the Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT Blue watch continues its new colourway with a blue sunray finished dial set with vertically brushed Arabic numerals and hour markers and two large sword-shaped hands for the hours and minutes adorned in Superluminova. The GMT is kept sizable, arrow-tipped and red in colour to contrast beautifully against the rest of the neutral aesthetic. A circular date window is also included between the 4 and 5 o’clock marker.
Powering the Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT Blue watch is the well-known and robust BR-CAL.303 which is based upon the Sellita SW-330. The automatic movement, with a 4Hz frequency and 42 hour power reserve, is typically known as a desk GMT movement since the crown independently sets the GMT hand by one-hour increments. The Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT Blue watch is delivered on a blue calfskin leather strap with an additional ultra-resilient black synthetic fabric strap included in the box. Both straps close by a classic stainless steel pin buckle.
