Fabergé Celebrates 180 Years with Colours of Love Rose Gold Pendant & Objets

Jewellery & Watch News

In honour of their 180th anniversary, the House of Fabergé introduce an exclusive capsule collection yet again demonstrating the quality of design and craftsmanship manifested by the artisan. The series comprises of a Fabergé Colours of Love Rose Gold Diamond & Ruby Fluted Egg Pendant and 180 Limited-Edition Rose Gold & Ruby Mini Fluted Egg Objets. Both are beautifully handcrafted from 18ct rose gold and feature rubies responsibly sourced from Gemfield’s Mozambique mine.

Fabergé’s history is not something that can be easily covered in one single write-up. It’s a story of hard work, ingenuity, and royalty, one that remains portrayed in every single piece of modern Fabergé jewellery you see today. In brief, the House of Fabergé began its narrative back in 1842 when Gustav Fabergé opened up a jewellery boutique along one of St Petersburg’s most fashionable streets. In 1882, Peter Carl Fabergé took over his father’s business and, together with his brother Agathon, transformed it into an international phenomenon. The fine jewellery manufacturer became renowned for its use of artistic materials and colours, and techniques like fluting, gemstone setting, enamel and guilloche. Fabergé were even recognised by the Russians Tsars and were commissioned by the family to create a long series of Fabergé Imperial Eggs. They were inevitably named “Goldsmith by special appointment to the Imperial Crown".

Two centuries later and the House of Fabergé remains one of the world’s most coveted jewellery creators. Whether it’s their surprise egg pendants, their luxury timepieces or their rare objets, Fabergé are the gifts of choice for men and women everywhere. For the new Fabergé Colours of Love 180 Year capsule collection, Fabergé takes inspiration from several fluted gold creations found in the brand’s archives. The gold fluting was a trademark for Peter Carl Fabergé during the late 1890’s and early 1900’s. He adorned picture frames, jewellery, cigarette cases and Imperial eggs with the motif, bringing out the natural beauty of the solid gold.

Fabergé have always had a penchant for surprise, and in typical fashion the new capsule collection unveils a unique 180-piece limited edition Rose Gold & Ruby Objet. At only 62mm in height and 35mm in diameter, the design is a miniature masterpiece. It revives the coveted fluted decoration across the 18ct rose gold egg motif in a radial pattern as if to evoke the rays of the sun. Down the centre, a delicate row of small Gemfields rubies adds colour and sparkle to the piece to pair with the two glowing cabochon rubies placed on opposing sides.

The 18ct rose gold Fabergé Colours of Love Fluted 180 Limited Edition Egg Objet is positioned on a matching rose gold stand adorned with the same fluting decoration. For a fun twist, the egg can be removed from the base. The surfaces of both the egg and base are engraved and textured for an even play of light and shadow, reflecting the gold beautifully and creating a natural glow. With 180 numbered pieces being made in commemoration of the anniversary, the Fabergé Colours of Love 18ct Rose Gold Diamond Ruby Fluted 180 Limited Edition Egg Objet is destined to be collectors’ item and future heirloom.

Also joining the Fabergé 180 year anniversary capsule collection is a stunning Fabergé Colours of Love Fluted Egg pendant. Yet again, the uniform fluting creates texture and lightplay across a solid 18ct rose gold egg motif, this time striping horizontally. A Gemfields Mozambican ruby sits wonderfully on the base of the egg, radiating a pop of colour when worn. For even more sparkle, a row of white diamonds is set on the bail which hangs from a matching 18ct rose gold chain.

Liisa Tallgren, Head of Design at Fabergé, says of the collection: “I'm very proud and grateful to have the chance to continue the legacy started by Gustav Fabergé 180 years ago, and continued by his son Peter Carl Fabergé. Peter Carl’s works of art still fascinate today, and our exciting challenge is to create pieces that have that charm and romance, but with a modern edge. Peter Carl Fabergé and his goldsmiths knew how to bring out the natural beauty of the materials they were using. They textured metal with chasing, engraving, beading and fluting, which he and his workmasters so skilfully used to enchant everything from picture frames to egg objets. The Third Imperial Egg features fluting most prominently and is a brilliant example of how Fabergé creations are tastefully intricate and not ‘over the top’.”
