Exploring Rado Watches

Jewellery & Watch News

Masters of materials, Rado are widely known for creating some of the world’s most stunning and wearable watches engineered using revolutionary materials like ceramic, diamond and sapphire crystal. As well as being both beautiful and scratch resistant, Rado watches have won over 35 prestigious international design awards for their unique approach to industrial design and their innovative use of ceramic.

The Swiss watch manufacturer is now part of the world-famous Swatch Group, but originally, they came from humble beginnings when back in 1917 brothers Fritz, Ernst and Werner established the Schlup & Co. watchmaking factory. The company got off to a modest start but by the end of World War II they were amongst some of the largest producers of watch movements in the world. It wasn’t until the 1950’s that Schlup & Co began selling watches under the Rado name, but the decision changed the watchmaking industry forever with the iconic and highly collectable Rado Golden Horse collection debuting in 1957 and the world's first scratchproof watch, the Rado DiaStar 1, in 1952.

During the decades since their founding, Rado have continued to set themselves apart from other luxury watch manufacturers, particularly with their innovative use of materials. Rado ceramic watches have been pivotal within their collections. The high tech ceramic materials amazes with smooth stylish surfaces that can be decorated in an array of colours while its lightweight and hypoallergenic appeal makes it effortless to wear. Ceramos is another exceptional material created by Rado, a one of a kind marriage of high-tech ceramic and metal. It still boasts the same lightness and durability of ceramic but with the irresistible lustre of metal.

Let’s take a look at some of the latest Rado watch collections in more detail…

Rado Hyperchrome Watches

Dynamic, sophisticated and of course highly durable, the Rado Hyperchrome watch collection is absolutely bursting with choice. From Rado Hyperchrome Automatic Chronograph watches to Hyperchrome Open Heart watches, these magnificent timepieces are designed to look just as good with a business suit as they do with jeans and a t-shirt. Rado True Watches

The Rado True watch collection is distinctively Rado packaged in polished ceramic and traditional colours that are designed to shine for years to come. Their ceramic cases are incredibly lightweight on the wrist and even the ceramic bracelets mould perfectly to the skin for a comfortably finish. We are spoiled for choice with a huge range of Rado True watches to choose from, but the Rado True Open Heart watches are an instant favourite for their breathtaking skeletonised dials.

Rado True Thinline Watches

First introduced in 2011, the Rado True Thinline watch collection is considered the ultimate Rado timepiece. It was designed to be their slimmest watch and was the first to feature the revolutionary monobloc case in full high-tech ceramic. These highly sophisticated instruments are available in a huge range of colours with glittery dials, diamond dot indices or sleek black hands.  The new Rado True Thinline Les Couleurs Limited Edition set introduced a whole new range of colours to the collection. The watches were design in collaboration with Les Couleurs Suisse allowing Rado to gain access to all 63 colours of the Architectural Polychromy colour theory, a range of shades that are celebrated across the globe for their appeal and allure.

Rado DiaMaster Watches

Some of the most sophisticated Rado watches, the Rado DiaMaster draws inspiration from old-school simplicity with retro inspired dial designs and classic leather straps. Once again, we are spoiled for choice with a huge range of diverse models to pick from including masculine supersized DiaMaster chronographs to dainty, diamond decorated DiaMaster ladies watches. We personally love the Rado DiaMaster Automatic Grande Seconde which showcases two overlapping subsidiary dials within the main dial, one for hour and minutes and the other for seconds.

Rado Tradition Watches

Exposing some of the brand’s most highly collectible timepieces, the Rado Tradition watch collection is home to a fantastic selection of watches inspired by history with many of them limited to only a select few pieces. Recently we have been treated to two new Rado Captain Cook watches, the MKII and the MKIII, both designed to commemorate the original 1962 Captain Cook watch named after British explorer, navigator and Royal Navy captain, Captain James Cook. Both Rado limited editions reincarnate the original design alongside improved technologies like the Rado’s EasyClip System which allows you to change the bracelet or strap quickly and easily without the need for any tools.

The Rado Integral watch was the first of its kind to feature high-tech ceramic back in 1986 and it continues to remain one of the brand’s flagship collections. Like the Rado Ceramica, the Rado Integral watches exhibits a square shaped case but this time with a combination of both high-tech ceramic and glistening stainless steel. These two toned timepieces are stunning up close, particularly the Rado Integral Gold PVD watches with the stainless steel cases and bracelets coated with a yellow or rose gold colour.

We have already mentioned the Rado Captain Cook in the Rado Tradition collection which shows off variations of the design in limited edition runs. The Rado Captain Cook watch collection provides the very same 1962 inspired aesthetic, but these timepieces are permanent additions to the collection. Rado Golden Horse Watches

Last but certainly not least is the Rado Golden Horse watch collection. These stunning timepieces caused quite a stir when they were unveiled earlier this year since they are inspired by the very first Rado watch released in 1957. In keeping with the original, the Rado Golden Horse watches feature a pair of seahorses on the dial used as a symbol for good luck. The timepieces are available in a variety of designs from rose gold to stainless steel, rice bead bracelets to leather straps and green, blue and mother of pearl dials.
