Exploring Corum Watches

Jewellery & Watch News

Corum watches are some of the most extraordinary of their kind, showcasing creativity, aesthetic appeal and technological prowess that is one of a kind. First founded in 1955 by Gaston Riles and his nephew Rene Bannwart, the brand quickly began manufacturing watches within the first year of establishment. Their first claim to fame came early on when the company introduced a watch crafted out of a 20 dollar gold coin. Since then, Corum have released a stunning variety of “World Premier” watches alongside highly collectable Corum limited editions.

Corum watches are recognised mostly by their braveness in design and the time-honoured knowledge that they portray through fine mechanical watchmaking technology. This technical richness and hallmark innovations are crafted in the watchmaking capital of the world, Le Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland located in the Jura mountains just a few kilometres from the French border. It was here that the very origins of Swiss watchmaking began and where the spotless reputation of Swiss watches continues to derive from to this day.

Within the Corum watch factory, they create a remarkable selection of luxury watch collections which include the Corum Admiral, Bubble, Golden Bridge and Heritage. Let’s take a look at these collections in more detail below…

Corum Admiral Watches

One of the brand’s first and most iconic models was the Corum Admiral watch. This striking sports chic instrument was introduced three years after the first Admiral’s Cup Race in 1957 and was instantly noticeable for its square shaped case and sailboat decoration engraved onto the case back. The Corum Admiral’s Cup watch has evolved greatly since then with the cases now featuring twelve-sides just like a dodecagon and brightly coloured nautical pendants on the bezel.

Alongside the Corum Admiral Cup watches, there are a variety of Corum Admiral Legend watches to choose from with stunning mechanical powered complications including GMT function, chronograph and moon phase apertures. The Corum Admiral Squelette watch is another remarkable model in the collection which shows off the brand’s exceptional creativity and talent. Equipped with a skeleton movement, the Corum Admiral Squelette mesmerises with geometric shapes and an open-worked dial.

Corum Bubble Watches

First released in 2000, the Corum Bubble watch collection is arguably the brands’ most famous for its unmissable dial designs and towering sapphire crystal glass that evokes the very form of its namesake. The Corum Bubble remains one of the most unique luxury watch designs in the industry with statement cases measuring up to 52mm in size and domed glass with some of the world’s largest watch crystal.

The beauty of the Corum Bubble watch is that the impressive crystal magnifies and distorts the dial beneath it, and these dials are already quirky enough as is. From giant skulls to images of the earth, sightings from space and iconic animated characters, the intricately detailed dials will never be mistaken for anything other than a Corum Bubble watch. These distinctive timepieces are certainly not something you want to be hiding under your sleeve!

Corum Golden Bridge Watches

Another iconic design from Corum, the Corum Golden Bridge watch was released back in 1980 and is regarded as the pinnacle of avant-garde design for its movement placed in the centre of a transparent sapphire crystal glass case. If you didn’t already have an appreciation for the remarkable effort and craftsmanship that goes into making a mechanical watch movement, looking at a Corum Golden Bridge watch will do the trick. The baguette shaped movements are kept incredibly slim and yet still manage to provide incredibly functionality and unbeatable precision.

The epitome of luxury, many of the Corum Golden Bridge watches are crafted from high quality materials such as 18 carat gold and titanium which is then often coated in precious gemstones like diamonds, rubies and sapphires. The clarity of the sapphire crystal glass reveals a work of art that must be seen to be believed and complimenting the colourful aesthetics of the movements comes luxurious straps beautifully handcrafted from alligator leather and produced in a variety of colours including pink, blue, green and burgundy.

Corum Heritage Watches

The Corum Heritage watch collection beautifully embodies the history of the Corum brand with designs that commemorate the creativity, richness and expertise of the designers from the past. There are a huge variety of different models to pick from and each offers something completely unique to a luxury watch collector. The most notable is possibly the Corum Heritage Coin watch which pays tribute to the brand’s first success which was created entirely out of a gold coin. The modern interpretation is created from 18 carat gold with a striking coin inspired dial design.

Earlier this year we were treated to the first Corum Heritage Lab 01 watches which showcase unique barrel-shaped cases. Similarly, to their Golden Bridge collection, these watches feature a ‘shape movement’ that has been made to measure exactly to the case and can also be viewed through the exquisite skeletonised dial. Another fantastic addition to the Corum Heritage watch collection is the Corum Romulus Annual Calendar which is inspired by the first king of Rome, Romulus, with a design recognising his feats with Roman numerals and a case standing for strength and elegance.
