Valjoux are behind some of the greatest mechanical chronograph movements in the world and are trusted by the likes of Breitling, TAG Heuer, Longines, Tissot, Baume et Mercier and many more luxury watch brands. The manufacturer is now owned by ETA under the Swatch Group and continues to create a variety of mechanical movements, with their most widely recognised calibre easily being the 7750.
The rise of Valjoux can be first traced back to 1966 when they absorbed the struggling movement manufacturer, Venus. They were able to create the Valjoux 7730 chronograph movement based on the Venus Calibre 188 which helped cement the brand as a leader in manual-winding chronograph movements during the 1960’s.
A few years later, a man named Edmond Capt joined the team with the intention of creating the world’s first automatic chronograph movement. He was only 24 when he was tasked with turning the hand wound Valjoux 7733 and turning it into a self-winding movement. His young age and intrigue with the latest technology allowed him to create the Valjoux 7750. The automatic chronograph calibre became the first movement designed with the aid of a computer and was instantly successful selling up to 100,000 movements in a year.
Valjoux chronograph movements continue to dominant the watch industry today. If you are interested in watches housing some of Valjoux’s greatest calibres, visit one of our stores or our website.
