Tsavorite

The tsavorite garnet is a member of the grossular garnet group. Tsavorite garnet is green, and this ranges from a bright bluish green to a yellowish green. The vivid green colour is due to traces of chromium and vanadium present in the crystal structure. Tsavorite garnets are a relatively modern discovery, they were found in the 1960s in the Tsavo area of the Kenya-Tanzania border. This location is where the garnet got its name. Aside from Kenya and Tanzania, deposits of tsavorite garnets have been found in Zambia, Madagascar and Pakistan.
