Tiger’s Eye is a striking gold to brown opaque variety of fibrous quartz. This gemstone is distinctive for its remarkable chatoyancy and dancing golden lines. This optical effect is caused by light reflections from the parallel fibres within the stone’s structure.
Tiger’s eye is a popular gemstone for jewellery, and has been worn since antiquity as an amulet to bring good luck. When the gem is blue in colour, it is referred to as Hawk’s Eye quartz. Tiger’s Eye deposits have been found in South Africa, Western Australia, Burma, India, Namibia and the USA.
