Spectrolite

Spectrolite is a rare variety of labradorite. It features the characteristic iridescence of labradorite, but in the whole spectrum of colours to include blue, green, violet, orange and red. The name spectrolite was introduced by the Finnish geologist Aarne Laitakari who described the stone and searched for its deposit. It was her son Pekka who discovered the first deposit of spectrolite in South East Finland in 1940. Quarrying of this beautiful and rare material began following World War Two and has since become a local industry.
