Kunzite is a pretty transparent pink to violet gem. Kunzite is a variety of the mineral species spodumene. The highly popular colour of Kunzite is caused by traces of manganese within the crystal structure. It was named after the American mineralogist G. F. Kunz, who first described the stone in 1902 in California. This makes kunzite a relatively modern gemstone, and it is popularly considered an alternative birthstone for February. Kunzite gives jewellery an undeniably feminine and romantic look, so makes a perfect gift for a loved one. Kunzite has been found in Brazil, Afghanistan, Burma, Madagascar, Pakistan and America.
