Chrysocolla is a semi translucent to opaque bluish green gemstone. It belongs to a group of copper bearing gems, which also includes malachite, azurite, larimar, sunstone and turquoise. The copper element within the mineral gives the gorgeous colour that ranges from sky blue to mountain green.
The name is derived from the Ancient Greek ‘Chrysos Kolla,’ meaning ‘gold glue’ in an allusion to the name of the material used to solder gold. Deposits of chrysocolla have been found in Chile, Israel, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Mexico, Peru, Russia and the USA.
