Amazonite

Amazonite is a microcline variety of the mineral species feldspar. Feldspar is the most abundant mineral group in the earth’s crust. Amazonite is a semi-opaque green to bluish green stone with white streaks and small reflections that are caused by cleavage within the crystal structure.

Amazonite is named after the Amazon River of South America, however no deposits of the gemstone have been found there. The luscious blue-green colour and wonderful white accents of the stone does recall the rich hues of the river. Deposits of amazonite have been found in India, Brazil, Colorado, Kenya, Madagascar, Namibia and Russia.
