About Swarovski Jewellery

Masters of crystal cutting and elegant fashion jewellery, Swarovski need little introduction. Their breathtaking collections of Swarovski crystal jewellery, watches, decorations and gifts are only the half of it, famed for their ultra-precise proprietary techniques and attention to detail which sees each piece of Swarovski jewellery designed and crafted by hand. Here’s everything you need to know about Swarovski jewellery

A Brief History of Swarovski Jewellery

Daniel Swarovski was born in Bohemia in 1862 to a family that owned a crystal-cutting company, allowing his passion for jewellery manufacture to grow at an early age. In 1883, at just 21 years old, he formed his own jewellery company and in just three years, it grew to employ over 70 workers and created jewellery for royal figures like Queen Victoria. The real turning point for the brand came in 1891, when Daniel Swarovski decided he wanted to create “a diamond for everyone”, crystals not just for those in the upper classes. So, he invented an electric machine that cut more accurately than ever before and in doing so, changed the history of crystal manufacture forever.

The exact treatment process and cutting technique of Swarovski crystals is a secret still held by the brand today, but the result is breathtaking with each stone showcasing a standard of sparkle never seen before in anything other than a diamond. Over the years, new cuts, shades and sizes were conceived as well as new settings like beading, pave and prong to enhance the sparkle and create even more advanced refinement. During the 1900’s, Swarovski’s reputation continued to grow as the crystals appeared in some of history’s most major events. For example, the ruby shoes for Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz in 1939 were decorated in red Swarovski crystals and in 1962, when Marilyn Monroe, sang “Happy Birthday Mr. President” for President JF Kennedy in Madison Square Garden, the flesh-coloured dress she wears (the most expensive dress in the world) is decorated with 2500 Swarovski crystals.

The Swarovski Jewellery Collections

The list of feats orchestrated by Swarovski goes on and on, but for us, no project of theirs outshines the accessible and beautiful Swarovski jewellery collections available to the public. There is truly no shortage of crystal designs to choose from, with an abundance of necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings to adorn your body in.  One of our personal favourites is the Swarovski Millenia jewellery collection designed by Creative Director Giovanna Engelbert. The series sees large octagon cut crystals cradled in gold-tone settings for a dramatic and unmissable finish worthy of the Roaring 20’s.

Celebrating Swarovski's sophisticated pavé technique, the Swarovski Dextera jewellery line delivers large hoop earrings, chunky chain bracelets and ear cuffs dressed in close set crystals for an indescribable sparkle. Each industrial-inspired piece is designed to be worn alone or stacked with other pieces from the Dextera family. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something gentle in nature and easily wearable for the everyday, the Swarovski Constella jewellery collection is worth an explore. The designs are set with prong set brilliant cut stones inspired by the classic solitaire, joined along slender settings of rose gold-tone plating, to bring the act of stargazing to your own body.
