Their prowess for design and talent for precious gemstone setting cannot be matched; Ponte Vecchio jewellery beautifully unites the wonder of Italy and the elegance of diamonds. The Ponte Vecchio logo speaks volumes, showcasing the three famous arches of the Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence, the Italian city the fine jewellery brand calls home and sources much of their inspiration.
A Brief History of Ponte Vecchio Jewellery
The story of Ponte Vecchio jewellery began during the 1960’s when founder Ugo Calà was only a child. Assisting his father in his barber shop located next to the Ponte Vecchio bridge, he met many of the best goldsmiths in the city who were renowned for making beautiful jewels for the world’s most prestigious fine jewellery brands. Despite what his father had originally intended for his son, Ugo started an apprenticeship for one of the most famous jewellers of the region and quickly mastered the art of Florentine goldsmithing. Shortly after, he founded the Ponte Vecchio Gioielli jewellery brand, creating jewelled masterpieces for the sophisticated women and gentlemen of Italy.
During the 2000’s, Ugo’s son, Francesco Calà joined the company, working across all aspects of the business including at the workbench as a goldsmith as well as front of house, creating relationships with customers and understanding their needs and desires. In 2018, after spending several years travelling around the world, Francesco took over the company to continue his father’s legacy. Bringing together the sights and experiences of travel with his knowledge in goldsmithing, he is now responsible for creating the breathtaking Ponte Vecchio jewellery collections you see today.
The Ponte Vecchio Jewellery Collections
Lovers of diamond and coloured gemstone jewellery will be delighted at the sights within the Ponte Vecchio jewellery collections. Only the best examples of rubies, sapphires, diamond and emeralds make up each design, all of which bring to life the magic of Florence and the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge. In honour of their home, each piece of Ponte Vecchio jewellery comes delivered in a special box closed by a padlock, something you’ll see many of on the Ponte Vecchio bridge. The location is famous for lovers securing their own padlock onto the structure, one that represents their everlasting love, before throwing away the key into the waters of the Arno river below.
One of their best-selling collections includes the Ponte Vecchio Pitti line which takes its name from the Palazzo Pitti and the ancient streets of the historic centre of Florence. Each ring, bracelet, earring and necklace is characterized by a pavé in precious stones of different sizes, each in harmony with the other. Another is the Ponte Vecchio Sirio jewellery collection named after one of the brightest stars in the sky. The brilliant white diamonds at the centre of each piece are suspended, like stars, within 18ct gold eternalising purity and beauty.
