About Ebel Watches

From rugged outdoor watches to opulent three handed dress watches showered in diamonds, Ebel watches cater to every kind of watch collector and communicate a long tradition of watchmaking excellence through their designs. Some of the most popular Ebel watches include those from collections like the Discovery, Wave, Beluga, Classic, 1911 and Brasilia. Every timepiece from the Swiss company’s catalogue is designed, developed and tested in-house within its workshops. Ebel watches cover a diverse range of designs and features, with prices to fit every budget. Amongst this range includes sporty chronographs for men, elegantly curved ladies dress watches and modern sports watches equipped with useful features like tachymetric scales.

Founded in 1911, husband and wife Eugene Blum and Alice Levy combined the letters of their name to create the artificial name Ebel. The brand’s timepieces were associated with elegance and luxury from the onset, bearing significance to their natural Swiss heritage in La Chaux de Fonds. Early doors the company achieved recognition for creating its ladies strap wristwatch in 1912 followed by a diamond jewellery watch ring in 1914. By 1932, the company was handed down to their couple’s son who focussed on expanding the brand abroad and getting its name recognised on a global scale. Shortly after this, the British Royal Airforce needed a watch to aid its pilots during air missions throughout Europe and so between the years 1939 and 1945 Ebel began supplying watches for this purpose.

In 1964 Ebel won the Swiss Premier Prix award for creating its Luna Etoille jewellery watch adorned with scintillating diamonds and stunning blue sapphire gemstones around its bezel. When Eugene Blum and Alice Levy’s grandson finally took over the company in 1970, the Ebel name had grown in reputation even more, leading to a world class status. Not long after this, Ebel launched the Sport Classic collection. To this day, the Sport Classic range remains one of the most popular designs, particularly for its simplicity and quality, not to mention its striking hexagonal shaped case and wave designed bracelet. The younger Ebel Sport Classic Automatic was launched later down the line, decorated with diamonds upon its bezel for a sporty chic look.

Following on from the Ebel Sport Classic range was the company’s Beluga collection released in 1985. This remains a lustrous and glamorous line of timepieces crafted from luxurious materials and boasting graceful lines for a feminine finish on the wrist. The highly polished elements of the Beluga made it another instant international success. By the end of the 1970s Ebel had become part of the LVMH Group and created some timepieces for Cartier but later disappeared off the radar for many years. By 2003 Ebel was taken over once again. Under new management, Movado Group breathed new life into the company and continues to create elegant wristwatches for successful collections like the Wave, the Brasilia and the Beluga.

The Ebel Wave watch, as its name suggests, is characterized by its wave-shaped links which add a unique and fashionable finish to the wrist. Since the first model was created, the Wave watch by Ebel has been revisited and reimagined in many ways. The collection is predominantly made up of women’s watches, however, there are some men’s chronograph watches available also. The Ebel Brasilia is created with the modern woman in mind and features a rectangular-shaped case whose sharp lines are balanced beautifully by the soft, curved shape of the links in its bracelet. Adding a subtle touch of colour into these models are its blued steel hands which gracefully travel over mother of pearl dials. In addition to this, the Swiss brand has extended its Beluga collection with younger-looking models. The Ebel Beluga watch collection now features elegant timepieces with a thin bracelet. With many diamond options to choose from, these refined ladies watches add finesse to smart and elegant evening attire and come in a solid 18ct yellow gold variation as well as the classic steel option.
