NEW Watches & Wonders 2024 – The New Oris Aquis Generation

Jewellery & Watch News

Oris opts for a detail-driven approach with the new generation of Oris Aquis watches.

The new 2024 releases from Oris might not be what you were expecting this year. While many brands will be making the most of the attention and exposure that comes with the world’s biggest luxury watch event – the Watches & Wonders showcase in Geneva – humble watchmaker Oris has released something much more subtle. It has refined several elements of its famed Aquis design, including sizing, specs, bracelets, straps and packaging and they look and feel incredible.  Our C W Sellors watch team flew out to try the new generation on for size and they didn’t disappoint. Meet the new 2024 Oris Aquis watches.

The Oris Aquis Watch Collection

The Aquis watch collection by Oris is home to a wide range of diving watches that offer great value for money. Within that range, you can find the popular Aquis Depth Gauge model, fitted with a unique mechanical depth gauge feature, multiple limited editions, and even a model with a regulator display. The first diving watch by Oris was released back in 1965 and was developed as a result of the brand’s collaborative work with professional divers and free divers. This inevitably led to the launch of the first Oris Aquis watch in 2011. Perfect for wearing underwater or on dry land, the design boasts a high level of practicability and includes classic models with date indicators, chronographs and more. The Aquis Date is one of the most popular variations of the Aquis line. Not only does it offer a water resistance of 300 meters, but it carries the same characteristics as the standard Aquis, albeit with an added date indicator. Unidirectional rotating bezels with ceramic inlays and screw-down crowns contribute to its overall look and feel. Sapphire crystal glass fronts and generous applications to the dial features make the Oris Aquis Date a great daily companion, particularly for those who love the aesthetic and appeal of a dive watch. Of course, the Oris signature red rotor can be seen behind the sapphire caseback as a continual reminder of the brand’s commitment to watchmaking excellence.

The New Revamped Oris Aquis 2024 Watches

The new Oris Aquis watches for 2024 boast several new but subtle changes that help the models retain the overall look and feel of the much-loved diving watch. The brand’s Co-CEO Rolf Studer explains;

“Rebooting a best-seller, a watch that people already love comes with risks. But because Oris is an independent company making us free to go our own way, we could be confident that it was the right thing to do. We’re excited to share the new Aquis with you as we build up to the official launch at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2024, and kindly invite your feedback.”

To begin with, there are three sizes to the new Oris Aquis line. They comprise a 43.5mm, a 41.5mm and a 36.5mm. You can opt for any of these three sizes with the Calibre Oris 733 – a movement that is based on a Sellita movement). The larger of the lot, the 43.5mm version, comes with the added option of the Oris Calibre 400, however. These new models have received an exterior revamp too. The cases feature shorter, angular lugs that create a more ergonomic fit on the wrist. The bezels have also been re-proportioned, while the crown guard has been redesigned. It now tapers towards the screw-down crown, guarding the crown better to protect it from accidental knocks and shock impact. Those powered by the Calibre 400 also come on a bracelet equipped with the innovative Quick Strap Change system, enabling you to swap safely and quickly between interchangeable straps and metal bracelets. You also get the Oris-patented quick-adjust clasp system with three comfort positions that will accommodate wrist expansion and contraction depending on the environment you’re in. The re-designed three-link bracelet crafted from stainless steel now features central links that are broader and skilfully tapered. On the whole, the proportions of these new Oris Aquis 2024 watches are balanced and easier to wear.

The dials have also had a makeover. They now all feature colour-matched date windows that meld effortlessly into the shade of their respective dials. The larger versions are available in green, black or blue, while the smaller 36.5mm models feature a bespoke design, with a black dial or a white mother-of-pearl dial material.

The New Oris Aquis 36.5mm Bespoke Watches

These aforementioned smaller 36.5mm models are bespoke designs that feature a strikingly beautiful, redesigned bezel. Never been seen before on an Oris Aquis watch, the respective black and white ceramic, slimmed-down bezels are adorned with stick markers that replace the usual Arabic numeral 60-minute scales. The new 36mm Oris Aquis Date watches are available in a black dial version or a white mother-of-pearl dial option. Both models are fitted on a special H-link bracelet that has been developed especially for this size. Powered by the Calibre Oris 733 movement, they make a great women’s option, thanks to their specially developed hour markers with diamond-shaped tips.

The New Oris Aquis Upcycle Watches

Oris’ upcycled watches are a more recent offering in the brand’s catalogue. They take the form of several striking timepieces crafted from multi-coloured recycled PET plastic. As an extension to this, Oris has revealed four new recycled editions for the Oris Aquis Date line. One measures the broader 43.5mm size, kitted out with the Calibre 400 movement, while the other three are powered by the Oris 733 movement, measuring 43.5mm, 41.5mm and 36mm respectively. One of the most appealing features of these recycled plastic Oris Aquis Date watches is the fact that each timepiece feels one-off and exclusive. Due to the manufacturing process of these watches, no two dials are ever the same, bringing that novelty element into the Aquis line for true enthusiasts.
