Jewellery & Watch News

Mikimoto founded in 1893 by Kokishi Mikimoto, he was the first man in the world to successfully culture a pearl and through a structured trial and error method he developed a system to sustain the cycle to create pearls.

With his main aim to "adorn the necks of all the women in the world with pearls. Kokichi Mikimoto's dream lives on" Mikimoto strived to perfection with the pearls he was producing, he had high standards with regards to the shape, size and colour of the pearls he would see as usable within the jewellery he was producing.

Mikimoto sets about business focusing on customer service from the offset, making sure the customers to his store enjoy a relaxed and comfortable shopping experience. His first store opened in1899 in Tokyo Chic Ginza shopping district where Mikimoto began retailing within the luxury goods market.

Today Mikimoto is the largest producer of finest quality cultured pearls and a world leader in jewellery design, his work recently featured heavily in an exhibition at the V&A in London. On show were a set of pearls worn by Maryline Monroe that were purchased for her by Jo DiMaggio.
