SevenFriday W1/01 Blade Limited Edition Watch Review

Jewellery & Watch News

The newest addition to SevenFriday’s industrial collection, the SevenFriday W1/01 Blade Limited Edition takes its inspiration from the sawblade and its ferocious, noisy and powerful presence. Boasting something entirely new to the brand, this bold timepiece also comes with a new ‘Squround’ case – as named by the brand themselves - creating an impressive look on the wrist as the typical SevenFriday square shape has be rounded out further for a sleek finish.

You’ll be pleased to know that despite the new case shape, SevenFriday remain true to their unique identity and incorporate one of their famous multi-level dials into the SevenFriday W1/01 Blade Limited Edition watch. The dial showcases bright accents of yellow and orange, just like the colours you’d find within an industrial building site on the hats and jackets of workers using a sawblade. These colourful elements contrast perfectly against the gun metal dial and the skeletonised opening of the balance wheel at 7 o’ clock.

Just like any other SevenFriday watch, the dial initially seems impossible to read but is actually very simple once it’s been explained. On the SevenFriday W1/01 Blade watch, a 12 hour disc shaped just like a sawblade is located right in the centre which displays the hour while circling the very outer rim of the dial is the minutes. The large hand points to the minutes while the large yellow ‘H’ pointer at 12 o’ clock points to the hour. Meanwhile, the seconds function is displayed at the disc at 5 o’ clock and a night and day indicator decorates the 9 o’ clock position.

The case of the SevenFriday W1/01 Blade Limited Edition is crafted from polished stainless steel and measures to 44.3mm by 49.7mm making it suit medium to large sized wrists. It’s fastens by a striking black padded calfskin leather strap detailed with yellow lining. The strap is also equipped with the brands FSC – or Fast Strap Changer – which includes a quick release pin allowing you to change the strap around quickly without the need for any special tools.

Powering the SevenFriday Blade watch is an automatic movement, the Miyota 82S7 to be exact. SevenFriday have been equipping their watches with Japanese-made movements since the beginning and they show no intention of changing this, and why would then when calibres like this offer so much possibility and precision. The Miyota 82S7 is a fine example of Japanese manufacture with a 40 hour power reserve, 21 jewels and 21,600 bph.

The SevenFriday W1/01 Blade Limited Edition retails at an incredible £1,250 and can be ordered here.
