Seiko Prospex Divers Twilight Blue Special Edition Watch Review

Jewellery & Watch News

Seiko are not a brand to take things easy, with a seemingly constant supply of stunning new Seiko watches being released for 2019. Recently this gorgeous-looking Seiko Prospex Divers Twilight Blue Special Edition SPB097J1 watch appeared onto the scene, boasting a design inspired by a Seiko diving watch from 1968. It’s a design we have seen recreated before but this time we are treated to a brand new colour scheme with a twilight blue dial and black and orange bezel insert inspired by the sea at sunset at Malta Island.

The Twilight Blue dial of this Seiko Prospex Divers Special Edition is absolutely breathtaking and is presented in a turquoise blue shade detailed with a unique sunburst brushed pattern. This effect creates different reflections and changing colours so that as you turn your wrist and the light reflects off the dial, you are greeted to various shades of green, grey and dark ocean blues. The large arrow shaped hour and minute hands are styled in typical Seiko fashion alongside the rounded indices all coated in a luminous material for legibility in low lighting. The dial of the Seiko Prospex Divers Twilight Blue Special Edition watch is also detailed with a sleek orange coloured seconds hand and a date window at 3 o clock.

The other improvement instantly noticeable on this Seiko Prospex Twilight Blue watch is the orange and black two toned aluminium insert on the bezel, a colour scheme that we have never seen before on a Seiko watch. The theme continues on the five minute markers on the inner flange, on the depth indication, on the seconds hand and printed on the dial to state the watch’s water resistance of 200 metres. At first, the combination of orange and black reminded us a little of the famous red and blue Seiko PADI but at closer look, the colours become evident and they pair together beautifully with the twilight blue dial.

The styling of the case is identical to previous versions of this Seiko divers watch measuring to 44mm in diameter and 13.1mm in height. It comes presented in stainless steel with a unidirectional aluminium bezel, sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating, a screw down case back and a screw down crown. As well as boasting a 200 metre water resistance, the Seiko watch promises 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance.

Hidden within the case is the Seiko calibre 6R15 movement, an in-house Japanese calibre which provides classic hour, minute, seconds and date function. The self-winding movement also comes with 23 jewels and promises a 3Hz frequency and a 50 hour power reserve. Last but certainly not least, the Seiko Prospex Twilight Blue watch comes with a stainless steel bracelet fitted and an additional black rubber strap packaged in the box for an alternative waterproof look.

In the past, there have been several Seiko special edition watches available to Japan and southeast Asia that us fans over here in the United Kingdom have struggled to get our hands on. But not this time! Seiko have heard our cries from overseas and this new Seiko Prospex Divers Twilight Blue Special Edition watch is marketed primarily towards the European and US market.

Retailing at £1,070, the watch is available to order now on our website. Get in touch with our team of watch specialists today to find out more about the Seiko Prospex Divers Twilight Blue Special Edition SPB097J1 watch, delivery times and the interest free finance options we have available on 01335 453453 or at sales@cwsellors.com.
