Oris Aquis Clean Ocean Limited Edition Watch Review

Jewellery & Watch News

There are many reasons to love luxury watch manufacturer Oris but their dedication to ocean conservation puts them above everybody else in our eyes. For as long as we can remember, Oris has been resolute in trying to make the world a better place by bringing us stunning new timepieces that raise awareness and money for a variety of charities. In the past we have had the Oris Hammerhead watch which raised money for the preservation of the Hammerhead Shark and the Clipperton Limited Edition which helped fund research for the polluted island.

Earlier last year, Oris released a special edition watch alongside the Let’s Do It Foundation to commemorate World Clean Up Day, a worldwide event that encourages millions of volunteers from all over the globe to join in the efforts to clean up our world’s towns and coastlines. To follow on from this, Oris have now unveiled a brand new Oris Aquis Clean Ocean Limited Edition watch. This spectacular piece has been released in partnership with Pacific Garbage Screening, a young organisation currently developing technology to capture plastic before it enters our oceans.

The statistics surrounding plastic in our oceans is difficult to comprehend. According to the latest research, there is more than 8 million tonnes of plastic being leaked into our oceans every year. This is the equivalent of one garbage truck every minute. Not only are we damaging our own ecosystem and the wildlife that lives in it, but we are also causing ourselves to suffer. The UN Environment Programme calculates that on average, a European consumes 11,000 microplastic particles a year through fish consumption. To help bring a stop to this, Oris are proud to announce their partnership with Pacific Garbage Screening who is working on a revolutionary solution to clean our oceans. The organisation’s concept is a floating platform positioned in rivers and estuaries that retrieves and recycles plastic litter. The litter is then converted into energy and bio-based products such as biodegradable plastics.

The new Oris Aquis Clean Ocean Limited Edition watch does a fantastic job of raising the awareness of both the issues our oceans face and the work that Oris and Pacific Garbage Screening is doing. Each of the 2,000 pieces produced will be decorated with a special medallion on the case back crafted from recycled PET plastic to commemorate ocean conservation charities like this and each Oris Aquis Clean Ocean watch box is crafted from environmentally friendly algae.

The watch itself has a lot going for it, coming in strong from the brand’s famous Aquis diving range. It boasts a stunning 39.5mm stainless steel case equipped with a gradient blue dial and uni-directional rotating bezel with an aqua blue ceramic insert reflecting the same colours that we associate with healthy oceans. It has a water resistance of 300 metres and a bold red triangle on the bezel that stands out beautifully against the rest of the blue aesthetic, making it perfect for counting down elapsed time underwater when measuring oxygen levels during a dive.

Hidden within the Oris Aquis Clean Ocean Limited Edition watch is the Oris 733 automatic calibre, a movement we see a lot within the Oris Aquis watch collection. This trusty calibre equips the timepiece with hour, minutes and seconds, a date window at 6 o clock and a power reserve of 38 hours. The movement also has 26 jewels and ticks at a frequency of 28,800vph. For some final sophisticated touches, the watch is kitted out with highly legible scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment, a polished stainless steel bracelet and folding clasp and a stainless steel screw in security crown.
