Exploring NOMOS Watches

Jewellery & Watch News

German watchmaking giants NOMOS Glashutte are no strangers to innovation. Since their founding in 1990, they have been on an extraordinary mission to exclusively develop and produce their own calibres alongside each and every NOMOS watch being made in-house, on site, in Glashutte. There are very few luxury watch manufacturers that can say they have the same attention to detail and patience with their watchmaking techniques, with NOMOS making almost all of their watch components by hand including milling plates, bridges, wheels, screws and of course high precision movements.

Glashutte is already renowned for being home to some of the world’s greatest watchmakers and NOMOS Glashutte has only further cemented this theory. They are behind a range of incredible inventions like their famous patented date function which is mounted on rubies and set around the movement, making it a seamless addition to the calibre and keeping the watch both elegant and flat. The NOMOS DUW 1001 and DUW 2002 manual winding movements are another remarkable achievement from the brand. They are among the very best that has ever come from Glashutte with their double mainspring barrels and power reserves of 84 hours.

Today we will be exploring all the latest NOMOS watch collections to help you find the right one for you.

NOMOS Ahoi Watches

Suitably named for boating enthusiasts, the NOMOS Ahoi watch collection comes with stunning nautical inspired designs alongside 200 metre water resistant cases and comfortable textile straps. The NOMOS Ahoi watch was the first from the brand to feature their opening NOMOS automatic calibre, the DUW 5001, which can now be found within many other models. What we love most about the NOMOS Ahoi watches is their ability to transition effortlessly from a day at the beach to a formal event.

Moving from the water to the racetrack, the NOMOS Autobahn watch collection boasts striking motor-racing inspired designs that bring a sense of movement to the wrist. Designed in collaboration with German furniture designer, Werner Aisslinger each NOMOS Autobahn watch features clear forms, steep curves and colourful displays for an unmissable look on the wrist. The NOMOS Autobahn Neomatik 41 Date watch is one of our favourites for its unique date display at 6 o clock.

They are described as ‘youthful’ watches for those that always look good no matter what they do, whether they are free running, cutting some moves on the dance floor or getting their career started.

NOMOS Ludwig Watches

A traditional take on NOMOS’ contemporary aesthetic, the NOMOS Ludwig watch collection comes with Roman numeral decorated dials and the choice between automatic or manual winding movements. The refined stainless steel cases and slender lugs of each NOMOS Ludwig watch sit flush with the wrist so that you can barely feel its presence. For women – or men who aren’t afraid of a little pink – we highly recommend a look at the NOMOS Ludwig 33 Champagne watch and its beautiful pink tone dial.

NOMOS Lux Watches

Another of NOMOS’ high-end collections, the NOMOS Lux watch comes crafted from a choice of 18 carat rose or while gold alongside one of their most popular movements, the DUW 2001. Named after light in Latin, NOMOS Lux watches are crafted into a unique cushion shape that captures light in all its angles to create a mesmerising shine. There are several dial colours to choose from including simple and reserved options to more exciting colours like the NOMOS Lux Cicada watch and its unmissable yellow dial.

NOMOS Metro Watches

Described by the brand as a ‘cosmopolitan’ watch, the NOMOS Metro is breathtakingly beautiful. Its extraordinary design is inspired by intricate measuring instruments while its automatic movement remains just as slender as a hand-wound. NOMOS Metro watches have won a huge range of design awards, particularly the first NOMOS Metro Date Power Reserve watch. This stunning design features a delicate power reserve indicator decorated in red and mint green alongside hands inspired by the Empire State Building and diamond knurling on the crown reminiscent of that found on the watchmaking tools in Glashutte.

NOMOS Minimatik Watches

The NOMOS Minimatik watch collection provides an even more slender finish for smaller wrists. Its immaculate design is available in white, champagne and midnight blue alongside one of the brand’s most famous calibres, the DUW 3001. This automatic movement was first introduced within the Minimatik collection and measures to an almost unbelievable height of only 3.2mm. This allows each case of the NOMOS Minimatik watches to mould elegantly to the wrist alongside its tapering lugs and high quality leather strap.

NOMOS Orion Watches

One of their most simplistic and classic creations, the NOMOS Orion watch boasts smooth lines, refined white silver dials and simple straight indices, and yet the modest aesthetics do not take away from the elegant technology hidden within. Perfectly proportioned, the cases of the NOMOS Orion watches are designed with curved lugs that sit comfortably against the wrist while the domed sapphire crystal provides a highly legible view of the dial. The NOMOS Orion watches are available with hand wound and automatic calibres, with the Orion Neomatik remaining a popular choice for its DUW 3001 manual wind movement that became the tenth in house calibre from the brand.

NOMOS Tangente Watches

The NOMOS Tangente watch collection has been the brand’s bestselling design for over 25 years for its classic and contemporary aesthetic. It beautifully embodies the Glashutte watchmaking company at its best with the use of in-house calibres at its core alongside sleek stainless steel cases and straight forward looking dials that have won an array of design prizes. With it being the brand’s most successful collection, there are a huge range of NOMOS Tangente watches to choose from suitable for all sizes of the wrist from 33mm cases to 41mm. We particularly love the new NOMOS Tangente Sport watch and its fine link bracelet and remarkable water resistance of 1,000ft.

NOMOS Tangomat Watches

Described as the big brother of the Tangente, the NOMOS Tangomat watch collection is designed for those with bigger wrists with larger case sizes, more robust materials and automatic movements with outstanding accuracy.  We are spoiled for choice with NOMOS Tangomat watches to choose from with the Tangomat Date watches providing clear legibility with no frills. We also love the NOMOS Tangomat GMT watch, a must have for world travellers and explorers. Its unique dial features a 24 hour indicator and a large aperture at 9 o clock denoting the exact location of the second time zone.

NOMOS Tetra Watches

Some of our favourite square watches in the industry, the NOMOS Tetra looks striking on the wrist thanks to its perfectly proportioned case and elegantly detailed dial. NOMOS Tetra watches are also renowned for their highly slender cases while the lugs are barely noticeable as two simple metal bars attached to the strap, an optical illusion that makes even the leather straps look smaller. There are plenty of NOMOS Tetra watches to browse through with the Tetra Petit Four series being one of our favourites for their colourful dials available in pastel pink, coral pink, mint green and blue.
