Kings of Swiss watchmaking, Breitling have been dominating the luxury watch industry for as long as we can remember. We are always incredibly excited to see all the new Breitling watch releases at Baselworld every year. They never fail to impress us with their show-stopping stand, mouth-watering dinner and exclusive Baselworld party that we are always incredibly fortunate to be invited to. Nevertheless, even without all the glitz and the glamour that comes with the week-long event, Breitling still amaze us with their newest innovations.
Breitling are known for being the best of the best for a reason. Their luxury watches for men and women have secured a place as some of the most technically proficient and aesthetically beautiful timepieces in the industry. They are one of only a few Swiss watch brands in the world to equip all their models with chronometer certified movements, further proof of their obsession with quality.
The history of Breitling goes back to 1889, when founder Leon Breitling was granted a patent for his intelligent chronograph pocket watch. These instruments were becoming increasingly in demand at the time for military and scientific use, so his sleek, uncomplicated design earned him a formidable reputation. As the year’s went on, Breitling continued to bring us new innovations one after the other including the world’s first wrist chronograph with a separate push piece above the watch crown and the patented Breitlight material which is magically engineered to be lightweight and highly scratch resistant.
Today we will be breaking down all the latest Breitling watch collections to help you find the perfect model for you. From Breitling chronographs, to Breitling smartwatches, pilot watches and divers watches, there really is a Breitling watch for everyone.
Breitling Navitimer Watches
Possibly their most iconic collection, Breitling Navitimer watches were first released in 1952 and remain one of their greatest and most notable models. Named after ‘navigation’ and ‘timer’, Navitimer watches were designed especially for the use of pilots who needed reliability, precision and functionality at the core of their watch. Each Breitling Navitimer watch is equipped with the flight-specific slide rule which allows pilots to calculate important information like average speed, fuel consumption and climbing speeds.
Aviators around the world rely on Breitling Navitimer watches every day from serious members of the Air Force to celebrities like John Travolta known for piloting his Boeing 707 and Bombardier Challenger 601. There are several Navitimer models to choose from with many kitted with the brand’s famous B01 automatic movement, an in-house calibre which boasts a COSC certified movement and a 70 hour power reserve. As well as being treated to some Breitling Navitimer limited edition watches this year, we also saw an appearance of the new PAN AM, Swiss Air and TWA Navitimer watches which were released to celebrate the Golden age of commercial aviation.
Breitling Aviator 8 Watches
Breitling Aviator 8 watches are the newest additions to the luxury watch brands rota, providing sleek new designs that reinterpret the original DNA and technical features of the brand’s very first pilots’ watches. The first time we saw the line was at Baselworld 2019 with the unveiling of the Breitling Aviator 8 Curtiss Warhawk watches.
Known as one of World War II’s most famous fighter planes, the P-40 Warhawk was an American single-engined, single-seated aircraft used right up until the end of the war. It was the third most-produced American fighter plane of WWII with some Warhawks painted with the famous "shark mouth" logo on the nose. There were only three key models in the Aviator 8 watch collection back then, each drawing inspiration from these magnificent machines with the same military green colour on the dials and special P-40 Warhawk engraving on the case backs. In a matter of months, the brand has now released a whole new range of Breitling Aviator 8 watches to join them including Aviator 8 chronographs, Aviator 8 Unitime watches and Aviator 8 Super8 watches.
Breitling Superocean Watches
Just as its name suggests, the Breitling Superocean watch collection has been designed to take on the ocean. Since its first release in 1957, the Breitling Superocean watch has remained a classic diving watch for novice ocean explorers while also becoming essential instruments for professional and military divers. Each Breitling Superocean watch is equipped with a special security valve which equalises the difference in pressure between the interior and exterior of the case, allowing them to survive beneath high levels of water pressure.
As well as being an unbeatable water resistant timepiece for diving, Superocean watches are combined with elegant cases and sophisticated straps that transition effortlessly between ocean escapades and formal occasions. For 2019, Breitling revisited this core collection and reimagined some of the designs elements including the dials, which before were arguably busy with lines of text and large Arabic numerals decorating the face. Now, each Superocean watch has been given a face lift to boast a new, clean and fresh finish.
Breitling Superocean Heritage Watches
Despite sharing a name and a hobby, Breitling Superocean Heritage watches and Breitling Superocean watches are worlds apart. Inspired by a past 1957 Breitling diving watch, the Superocean Heritage boasts a breathtaking vintage design alongside cutting edge technology. Thanks to their water resistant cases, vintage dials and powerful Swiss made movements, the Superocean Heritage has become incredibly popular with watch collectors around the world.
The Breitling Superocean Heritage watch collection has also been treated to a careful face lift this year, taking care to preserve the character of the 1957 watch that originally inspired it. One of the key improvements that we noticed was to the unidirectional rotating bezel which now contains a high tech ceramic inlay for better scratch resistance while the stunning rim of gold or steel found on the outside has been engineered sleeker but still remains easy to grasp with its half minute ratchets. There are plenty of Breitling Superocean Heritage watches to choose from each equipped with a vintage inspired mesh stainless steel bracelet or mesh style rubber strap.
Breitling Premier Watches
We were spoiled this year, not only with the introduction of the brand new Breitling Aviator 8 watches but with the reincarnation of the Breitling Premier watch collection. First launched in 1940, the Breitling Premier was originally released to bring some much-needed elegance to their collections. However, the collection found itself struggling to compete with the brand’s highly regarded aviator and diver watches.
Nevertheless, for 2019, the Breitling Premier watch is back and has filled the gap for those looking for a sophisticated dress watch. Worthy of their historic name and whose quality, performance, and design DNA are pure Breitling, the new Breitling Premier watches continue to boast glamorous and graceful designs alongside powerful automatic movements. We have also been treated to some new Breitling Premier Bentley watches to celebrate the renewed partnership between the luxury watch and car manufacturers. Each design boasts a metalized Bentley logo on the exhibition case back, a striking racing green dial and an engraved plate inscribed with the Bentley name on the left side of the case inspired by the dashboard of the supercharged 1929 “Blower” Bentley car.
Breitling Avenger Watches
